Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:
Day 2 of Series 2 of Jeopardy! UK features Adam Diouri returning to your screens to defend his title after his victory of £2,351 in yesterday’s battle, after he was the only player to give the correct response in yesterday’s Final Jeopardy round. Today, he faces off against Kwasi Owusu from West London and Lizzie Mackarel from Bromley-by-Bow. (I sincerely apologize if any of these spellings are incorrect—I am working off the subtitles here in many cases.) It does appear as though Lizzie has a bit of a quizzing pedigree, having done a few of the other shows on the UK television quiz circuit in the past.
Yesterday, I promised some of my thoughts on some of the changes made to the show between Series 1 and Series 2. I would like to say that I am a fan of introducing a seventh category to the game board; the extra 15 clues allow for more time in actual gameplay while still giving Stephen Fry the time to be Stephen Fry. The extra sounds added to the show (some background music and extra sound cues) I have no opinion on—as with Series 1, I have to remember that I, a diehard Canadian fan of the program itself, am not ITV’s intended target audience. However, I would say that if those sounds made their way into an American version, there would very likely be a fan riot—it would be too jarring of a change for North American audiences.
