Adam Remsen, an attorney & theater producer from Memphis, Tennessee (5-day total: $99,601)

Adam Rensen on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

As we reach the end of Week 41 of 46 of Season 42 of Jeopardy!, Adam Remsen has clinched an automatic spot in the 34th Tournament of Champions with his fifth victory. However, he seeks to get past the $100,000 mark (and a sixth win) as he faces challengers Jacob Ross-Ewart and Deidre Purcell. Interestingly, there are some people in Jeopardy! spaces who have been quite excited for Deidre’s appearance; I personally am unfamiliar with her, but I’m sure these others aren’t speaking for nothing, and I am quite interested in seeing what all of the fuss is about.

In other Jeopardy! news, yesterday saw some important news drop for the late summer period: Jeopardy! Masters Season 4 is going to be airing in late August and early September, with the field of 6 players being Yogesh Raut, Victoria Groce, Juveria Zaheer, Paolo Pasco, Andrew He, and Long Nguyen. I am quite looking forward to this schedule, as airing it when the main games are on their yearly hiatus will allow me (and the show) to focus coverage and marketing on the tournament. (I can handle my “vacation” being a few weeks shorter.)

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Religious Matters; Hole Foods; I Played A Real Person; Great Legs; Vwllss Hwn Wrds; Charles Curtis: The Man, The Legend)

Adam had just taken the lead when he found the Daily Double. Even though he was unsure of the category, he still went all in and took a big lead into the break. After 15 clues, the scores were Adam $8,200 Deidre $3,200 Jacob -$200.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Adam 7 correct 1 incorrect
Deidre 4 correct 0 incorrect
Jacob 1 correct 1 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Deidre acted in a math musical.
Jacob gives his students a New York Times Monday crossword on a Friday.
Adam is learning piano alongside his son.

Adam’s strong play continued as he got to 15 correct by the end of the round. On the opening board, Adam ran vowelless Hawaiian words and got 3 in religion & great legs, while Deidre got 4 in hole foods (only being stopped from the category run by Canadian Jacob getting a clue about Tim Hortons.)

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Adam 15 correct 1 incorrect
Deidre 6 correct 0 incorrect
Jacob 5 correct 2 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Jacob $600

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Science & Nature; Adjectival Artists; In The Dictionary; Distinguished Mexicans; Metro Booming; Don’t Trust You)

Jacob uncovered DD2 early in the round, picking up $2,000 and gaining momentum. However, Adam found DD3, and the $5,000 he gained from it was enough to make sure he had a runaway entering Final Jeopardy. On the second board, Adam got 4 in booming metro areas, while Jacob got 4 in science and Deidre got 3 in adjectival artists.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Adam 25 correct 1 incorrect
Jacob 13 correct 2 incorrect
Deidre 12 correct 0 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 11 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Adam $25,000
Jacob $11,800
Deidre $9,800

It was a good thing that Adam had a runaway, as Jacob was the only player correct in Final. Adam takes win #6 via runaway and will go for win #7 on Monday.

Tonight’s results:

Deidre $9,800 – $4,000 = $5,800 (Who is Jimmy Carter?)
Jacob $11,800 + $7,801 = $19,601 (Who is the Dalai Lama?)
Adam $25,000 – $99 = $24,901 (Who is Rogers?) (6-day total: $124,502)
