Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today, Peter McFerrin looks to become the 294th 5-time champion since the Alex Trebek version of Jeopardy! returned to the airwaves in 1984. However, looking to stop him are Seth McElroy of Charlottesville and Jackie Goncalves of Brooklyn.
One thing that has worked in Peter’s favor thus far is that he has been extremely strong at the bottom of the board, often picking up more high-valued clues than lower ones. And as much as some pundits are thinking that Peter’s conservative betting strategy will hurt him in tournament play, I don’t think it will hurt him as much as you think, as I think his strong knowledge base will offset that once we get to tournament season. (That said, I do think Peter should get more comfortable with the idea of betting big going into tournament play.)
Another point is that while today is the final day of the Wheel of Fortune season, Jeopardy!‘s season will run another seven weeks; Jeopardy!, barring major issues (like the COVID pandemic in 2020 which halted production) the show has produced 230 episodes a season since the 1986-87 season, compared to the 195 produced by Wheel.

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:
The Barbary Wars were a war fought by the United States, Sweden, and the Kingdom of Sicily against the Barbary pirates in North Africa in the early 19th century. Barbary pirates kept demanding tribute from American vessels trading in the area, with refusal to pay resulting in the capture of American ships and goods. In response, the Americans elected to bombard numerous cities on the Barbary coast, ultimately extracting concessions of safe conduct, ending the way. The Tripoli Monument, described in the clue, is a monument to those fallen in that war, and is the oldest Annapolis monument and the first to honor the United States Navy.
As a Canadian who isn’t quite as eminently familiar with American military history, I’m not 100% sure how this will play today. I could see Peter getting it, though—he’s been strong on these sorts of clues.
