The book, From the Volcano to the Gorge: Getting the Job Done on Iwo Jima, was written by Howard McLaughlin, Jr. and Raymond Miller, two Marine veterans of the Battle of Iwo Jima. McLaughlin witnessed the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi from his post as a machinegunner, and participated in the final fight at the gorge.
