In September 2016, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of author Roald Dahl’s birth, the OED added a number of words made famous in Dahl’s books. For example, “splendiferous” was generally considered obsolete before Dahl resurrected it in Danny Champion of the World, while “scrumdiddlyumptious” comes from BFG.

Among Dahl’s other famous works include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. His screenwriting credits include two well-known 1960s films, the James Bond flick You Only Live Twice and 1968’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To date, over $440 has been raised.)
