Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy premiered on March 27, 2005 on ABC as a midseason replacement, focusing on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attending physicians at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. The title is a pun on the title character’s name, Dr. Meredith Grey (portrayed by Ellen Pompeo), and Henry Gray’s seminal 1858 anatomy textbook, Gray’s Anatomy.
Its 15th season premiered in September 2018; it is still one of the top-rated dramas on broadcast television.
(Apropos of nothing, March 27, 2005 is almost a year after the Toronto Maple Leafs most recently won a playoff series.)

Andy’s Thoughts:
- This was the first set of regular episodes taped in calendar year 2019, taping January 15 (the All-Star Games taped January 8 and 9).
The light pen that the contestants use for Final Jeopardy is notoriously difficult to write with. Many contestants struggle with them. However, the show’s judges (as seen in this behind-the-scenes video) are able to see the responses and track the movement of the light pen as the responses are being written, so that they can see what contestants are attempting to write, ruling accordingly. Much like the PGA Tour, it is inapproprate for the home viewer to act as though they are a part of the judging panel.
- $48,001 is the fourth-highest score ever for a regular player’s first win, after Myron Meyer ($50,000 on September 5, 2002), Kevin Joyce ($49,699 on April 15, 2009), and Jack Feerick ($48,600 on January 28, 2009).
- $24,000 is the third-highest regular play trailing score going into Final Jeopardy, following Mark Wales’ $24,800 (July 21, 2008) and Michael Cudahy’s $24,400 (June 25, 2004, Ken Jennings’ 18th win)
- $26,400 is the highest debut Coryat score since Margaret Miles’ $27,200 on April 14, 2016.
I really wish Bif had gone True Daily Double on the final Daily Double. I’ve calculated the average future winnings using the ceteris paribus assumption, but I’m just going to tell myself that in the alternate universe where Bizarro Bif does go True Daily Double, Bizarro Eric also STAYs CLAM on YOU SAY YOU WANT A FRENCH REVOLUTION $800 and the only difference in the outcomes is that Bizarro Eric wins an extra $8,800.
