Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Authors) for Friday, October 14, 2022 (Season 39, Game 25):
Featuring a statue of a man escaping his grave, his tomb in Amiens contrasts with the title of his 1864 adventure novel
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Marianne dos Santos, an intermediate French & religion teacher from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Rhianan Thomas, a hospitality worker from Downey, California
Cris Pannullo, a customer success operations manager from Ocean City, New Jersey (10-day total: $333,723)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Last night on Jeopardy, Cris Pannullo became the 15th player to win at least 10 games on Jeopardy!; an interesting statistic: none of the previous 14 have lost when trying to go for win #11. Rhianan Thomas and Marianne dos Santos are both hoping that Cris moves to 14-1 in that statistic! Regardless, whoever wins today will be defending their title at a not-yet-publicly-known time, as Monday begins the Second Chance Tournament, and the indefinite-length 30th Tournament of Champions immediately follows Second Chance. (Of course, the show knows when the title defense will happen at this point, but as it is dependent on how long the Tournament of Champions final takes—it could take anywhere from three to seven games—the date of the next regular-play match will be a closely-guarded secret.)
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Jules Verne’s tomb in Amiens, France, features a man coming out of the ground and reaching for the heavens, in direct contrast to Verne’s 1864 work Journey to the Center of the Earth. In the work, the main characters enter the Earth via Snæfellsjökull in Iceland (and exit via Stromboli off the coast of Sicily).
Verne’s tomb sculpture was designed by Albert Roze, who has numerous sculptures in public places throughout France; another of Roze’s famous sculptures in France is the Golden Virgin atop the Basilica of Our Lady of Brebières in Albert, France.
