Correct response: What is a security blanket?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

A term popularized by Linus in Charles Schulz’s comic Peanuts, the term “security blanket” was originally used in the 1920s to refer to a blanket placed over a child and fastened down. (If you’re reading this at a place other than The Jeopardy! Fan, the website operator has stolen this content from that site.) It was used by the U.S. military in World War 2 to refer to measures used to keep military information secret.

Merriam-Webster’s “Words at Play” has more about the term.

Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To date, over $300 has been raised.)

In order to redesign our merchandise area to serve you better in 2026, all merchandise sales have been temporarily taken offline. Look for a return in late 2026! All previous orders will still be supported.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Yes, the writers can sometimes get too cute, as they did on THE ELEMENTS $1000. The way the rules are generally applied are that a cute “turn of phrase” (or “tease-out metric”) can not be solely used to invalidate an otherwise correct response (though the category title can be).
  • Effective in first on buzzer stats: Francois 56.86% (29/51), Alexandra 21.57% (11/51), Vicki 21.57% (11/51).
  • Contestants absolutely do not know scores of the prior quarterfinal matches in this tournament. Even though it looks like Alexandra bet to try to pass Matthew’s wild card score, she was betting to cover Vicki’s doubled score ($4,800 doubled is also $9,600.).
