Welcome to the start of a new week of episodes! Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Toys & Games) for Monday, February 7, 2022 (Season 38, Game 106):

Its co-creator said adding an “L” to the end of the 1st word in the original title of this board game invented in 1979 “made it”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Jennifer Kronenberger, a social worker from Metairie, Louisiana

Jennifer Kronenberger on Jeopardy!

Lawrence Long, a nursing student & stay-at-home uncle from East Bend, North Carolina

Lawrence Long on Jeopardy!

Emma Saltzberg, a consultant from Brooklyn, New York (3-day total: $54,199)

Emma Saltzberg on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: In what is the start of a busy two and a half weeks on the show, Emma Saltzberg returns as a 3-day champion; she’ll face Lawrence Long and Jennifer Kronenberger in a game absolutely crucial to her Tournament of Champions chances. Emma’s a strong champion—on her best days she’s at Amy Schneider-levels—but the variance levels remain to be seen at this point.

On another note, the primetime Jeopardy! National College Championship begins tomorrow night on ABC prime time (8:00 Eastern and Pacific, 7:00 Central and Mountain). These episodes are above and beyond the normal syndicated episodes. So, you’ll get an extra hour of Jeopardy! Tuesday through Friday between tomorrow and the final of Jeopardy! National College Championship on February 22. One interesting wrinkle to this is that Jeopardy! will be airing opposite itself in Phoenix—the show airs in Phoenix at 7:30 local time on independent station KTVK, while Jeopardy! National College Championship airs on KNXV (ABC) from 7:00 to 8:00 local time.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is Trivial Pursuit?

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2022 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

After the frustration of having to keep buying Scrabble sets because they weren’t positive their previous sets still had all of the tiles, Montreal-based newspaper reporters Chris Haney and Scott Abbott decided to invent their own game, as they figured there was a lot of money in board games. They settled on a trivia game, eventually titled Trivial Pursuit, in 1979. By 1984, the game was a North American phenomenon. The Trivial Pursuit phenomenon reached a point where television stations in the United States were more than willing to take a chance on the syndicated revival of a Merv Griffin network trivia game whose heyday was in the 1960s and 1970s. You might have heard of it. Something called Jeopardy?

(And yes, there was a significant amount of money in board games for both Abbott & Haney; both became rich due to the game.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter as of late mentioning Mayim Bialik with their criticisms, or worse, abuse. This really puts Jeopardy! fans in a really bad light. Is it really that much of a struggle to practice kindness?
