D.C. math professor Robert Won enters Mayim Bialik’s final week of hosting as a 1-day champion and winnings of $32,001. Today’s challengers are Aleithia Stephens and Steve Clarke.

Editorially: In protest of how tabloid entertainment papers are constantly mining Twitter to twist people’s words for their anti-Mayim Bialik hit pieces, I will not be live-tweeting mid-game statistics for this week’s games. However, I will be posting them here on this page for the sake of anyone who might still be interested in them.

On a more personal note: For the past two and a half years, I have often raised money for the MS Society of Canada through their “Gamers vs. MS” program. Porgy and Bess is a 1935 George Gershin English-language opera set in Catfish Row in Charleston, South Carolina, based on the DuBose Heyward novel Porgy. Its initial Broadway cast featured classically-trained African-American singers; the opera gained its current popularity following a 1976 Houston Grand Opera performance, and has major American cultural significance. The 1976 (Cleveland), 1977 (Houston), and 2020 (Met Opera) recordings of the opera have all won Grammy Awards for Best Opera Recording.

Robert got off to a hot start in today’s game, picking up 8 correct before the interviews. However, Steve got 10 correct himself to pull into the lead at the end of the round! Aleithia struggled a little bit on the signalling device, at least against Robert and Steven.

However, Steve didn’t get discouraged, and picked up over $8,000 over the back half of the round in order to prevent the proceedings from becoming a runaway! Scores going into Final were Robert at $23,000, Steve at $13,800, and Aleithia at $7,400.

Today’s game not being a runaway was crucial, as only Steve and Aleithia were correct in Final; Steve bet the absolute minimum, keeping Robert’s standard cover bet in mind, and won the game by $2. It should be noted that Mayim did make reference to Robert making a cover bet on Friday at the top of the show, for those wondering if Steve might have had an inkling as to Robert’s strategy. Steve will come back tomorrow to defend his title!
