It’s Monday, March 29, 2021, the start of a new week. Dr. Oz’s charity received $129,901 as a result of last week’s games. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy:

Authors: Book to Screen: Horrified by the 1964 movie musical from her work, she okayed a U.K. stage version as long as “no Americans” were involved

(correct response beneath the contestants)

The Jeopardy! community is mourning the loss of Brayden Smith, who passed away on February 5. The Brayden Smith Memorial Fund has been established, dedicated to furthering the educational aspirations of Southern Nevada students.

Today’s contestants:

Bryce Hwang, a medical student from Santa Clara, California

Cyndi Mundt, a forensic evaluator from Seattle, Washington

Susan McMillan, an Arabic translator from Portland, Maine (1-day total: $35,600)

Susan McMillan on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Susan played a very strong game on Friday in victory. The “weekend” (I say this in quotes because this was likely taped the next day) should hopefully allow for her to recharge before defending her title.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: Who is P.L. Travers?

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

P.L. Travers is best known as the author of the Mary Poppins series of children’s books, which were adapted into a 1964 Disney live-action movie musical. Walt Disney tried for years to purchase movie rights from Travers, and she was so disgusted by Disney’s end result (she felt that Poppins was portrayed too nicely, that Mr. Banks was portrayed too harshly, and she disliked the music) that she only acquiesced to allowing a musical decades later and only on the stipulation that no Americans (or anyone from the original production) were involved. This meant that the Sherman Brothers, who wrote the music to the original production, could not write any new music. The musical was not released until 8 years after Travers’ death.
