Correct response: Who is Brenda Lee?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Since Billboard changed its chart rules in the mid-2010s to allow recurring songs to chart on the main chart, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” has generally charted well. However, a viral TikTok campaign in 2023 propelled Lee to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the oldest solo artist to top the chart (breaking the previous record set by Louis Armstrong in 1964).

This Final Jeopardy today will definitely test whether or not players and viewers have kept up with recent Billboard chart news, especially around this past Christmas.

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Bestsellers; Where Is That?; My Job Is Beach; Sports Awards; Nonpotent Potables; “V”-8)

A correct but tough call from the judges on clue #2 might often discombobulate a challenger—but that didn’t happen to Tim. Tim put it behind him immediately and picked up 9 correct after that, holding $5,000 after 15 clues, holding a big lead over Amar at $1,600 and Ryan at -$400.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Tim 9 correct 1 incorrect
Amar 3 correct 0 incorrect
Ryan 2 correct 2 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Ryan survived having a finger severed; it was re-attached.
Tim recently moved to Alaska and has already had a bear encounter.
Amar subsisted off bread and soup during finals week last year.

Amar nearly caught and passed Tim for the lead in this segment, but an incorrect Daily Double kept him in second place. While Tim’s score didn’t move—he had 2 correct, 2 incorrect—he still led after 30.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Tim 11 correct 3 incorrect
Amar 8 correct 2 incorrect
Ryan 6 correct 2 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Tim $5,000
Amar $3,600
Ryan $1,200

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: The 17th Century; You Can’t Get Any Further North; Hey Baby, What’s Your Science?; At The Museum; Name The Celebrity; “Y” In The Middle)

Tim 14 correct 5 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 18 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Amar $16,000
Ryan $7,200
Tim $5,000

This Final Jeopardy was a Triple Stumper; Amar’s runaway gives him win #4!

Tonight’s results:

Tim $5,000 – $2,251 = $2,749 (Who is Cher? Hi Cooper + Blake!)
Ryan $7,200 – $0 = $7,200 (Who is Parton? I <3 my pregnant wife)
Amar $16,000 – $1,500 = $14,500 (Who is Dolly Parton?) (4-day total: $55,899)
