From October 19th through the 26th, Gamers vs. MS will be doing a 168-hour charity video game marathon in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Canada has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world, with an estimated 1 in every 385 Canadians living with the disease. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) that attacks myelin (the protective covering of the nerves), causing inflammation and damage. With that damage, nerve impulses can be completely disrupted. Currently, there is no cure. I’ll be taking part in the relay for six hours tonight at 8 PM Eastern, on my own Twitch channel, with the return of the Complete the List podcast.

If in six months we find that the amount of prize money that Jeopardy! has given away has fallen significantly, I think that we can point to Final Jeopardy! clues like today’s. Frankly, I’d like to know who in the writer’s room got this one in order to let it through. I would also say that a significant part of the viewing audience will see “1934” + “murder” and go to Hercule Poirot without really thinking.
In Dashiell Hammett’s final novel The Thin Man, Nick Charles has retired as a detective after settling down, having married Nora (who had inherited the lumber-mill), but was pressed back into service to investigate a murder. It was later adapted into a six-part film series and a television series that aired on NBC from 1957 to 1959.
Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! All proceeds from any “Keep The Faith And We’ll Win” shirt sold will be donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. To date, over $440 has been raised.)

Andy’s Thoughts:
- It worked out in this case, but I felt that Allyson’s Final Jeopardy! wager was, counterintuitively, unnecessarily risky, as Nick was in a position where “bet everything” was plausible (due to Allyson having more of a lead over Nick than Nick had over Martha). Again, counterintuitively, betting more money (i.e. $8,901) would have carried less risk for Allyson.
- A bet of $0 would have worked out really well for Martha here, especially considering her position in the game.
