Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Films of the 1950s) for Thursday, April 21, 2022 (Season 38, Game 159):
The title character of this film has the same name as the Roman goddess of the dawn
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Meghan Bowman, an IT analyst from Mount Prospect, Illinois
Alex Lemberg, an attorney & activist from San Francisco, California
Mattea Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (12-day total: $271,282)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Mattea Roach surpassed 300 correct responses, 12 victories, and $270,000 yesterday. Today, she goes for victory #13. Mattea has quickly become one of the most popular people in Canada to cheer for—and our national news and morning shows are definitely paying attention! (For the uninitiated Canadians: the show airs on YES TV in Ontario and Alberta, CHEK Victoria in British Columbia, and NTV St. John’s on the East Coast. If you don’t have access to any of these—check out the local listings of US border television markets.)
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

One of the most famous Disney animated films of all time, Princess Aurora is the title character of 1959’s Sleeping Beauty. The crux of this clue, though, is being able to associate Aurora as “Roman goddess of the dawn”. If your brain can make that connection in 30 seconds, great! If not: that’s no reason to heap shame onto anyone.

Game Recap:
Jeopardy! Round categories: California; Book Title Geography; Think “Big”; That’s not Cannon; A Golf Course; Also Found in the Kitchen
Mattea had a good, but not great, start in her quest for win #13; she only had $2,000 (off 5 correct responses) going into the first break! Meanwhile, Alex doubled up immediately after the break on the Daily Double and held the lead after Single Jeopardy!; Meghan did well in the golf category at the end to pull some of her defecit back.
Double Jeopardy! Round categories: The 1720s; World Capitals; Anagrammed Ungulates; Biblical Devotions; Simply Stellar; Let Freedom Sing
A strong battle between Mattea and Alex only saw separation when Mattea got her Daily Double correct, whereas Alex missed his. Alex did recover after losing $5,000 to keep Mattea from getting a runaway. Scores going into Final were Mattea at $20,000, with Alex at $12,600 and Meghan at $4,000.
Meghan was the only player to get Final correct; unfortunately for her, she didn’t have enough money today to take advantage of that to win today. Mattea survives another scare to pick up win #13! She goes for win #14 tomorrow.

Final Jeopardy! betting suggestions:
(Mattea $20,000 Alex $12,600 Meghan $4,000)
Mattea: Standard cover bet today is $5,201.
Alex: You need to get to at least $14,800; bet at least $2,200. If you limit your bet to $4,599, you can keep Meghan locked out in third.
Meghan: You’re not going to win unless Mattea significantly overbets. Bet whatever you like, with the thought that your chances of second place are better if you keep more money left at the end.
