More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2022 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Camelot, the chief home of King Arthur from English mythology, has been placed in a number of locations around the island of Great Britain, including Caerleon in Wales, Cadbury Castle in Somerset, Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, and Winchester in Hampshire, with Caerleon and Winchester holding the most convincing claims. Caerleon’s claims come from a series of Welsh stories named Mabinogion, whereas Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur places Camelot at Winchester Castle.

The fireworks came out again in Double Jeopardy, with both Molly and Andrew picking up True Daily Doubles! Molly used hers to jump out to a lead, but Jeff and Andrew used the intervening 15 clues to reel her in. Then, Andrew picked up an incredible $14,000 on his! Amazingly, it wasn’t quite enough to cement a runaway game, as Andrew had exactly twice Molly’s score going into the final clue, with Andrew at $30,400, Molly at $15,200, and Jeff at $13,200.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Andrew 24 correct 5 incorrect
Molly 20 correct 5 incorrect
Jeff 12 correct 1 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 4 (0 today).

All three players got Final Jeopardy! correct today, and Andrew bet $1 to become a 4-day champion! Viewers will get to see the end of his run tomorrow, as tomorrow’s game is the first game of Amy Schneider!

Today’s interviews:

Jeff went to Disneyland the day before it closed before the pandemic.
Molly attended the opening of the Austin FC stadium.
Andrew had a donkey as an unexpected dinner guest in Croatia.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Andrew becomes the 9th player to win at least $125,000 over their first 4 wins on the show; $138,202 is the 5th-best 4-day total.
  • Today’s is the 8th regular-play game since October 2004 in which all 3 Daily Doubles were responded to correctly for the maximum possible wager.
  • Viewers are reminded that since November 2014, ties after Final Jeopardy! are settled with a tiebreaker clue. This makes betting $1 the correct bet from the lead. Even with his current statistics on Final Jeopardy, Andrew is definitely more likely to get Final Jeopardy! correct and win the game in Final than his chances of winning would be if he didn’t bet, hoping that Molly would either miss Final, not bet enough, or win a tiebreaker.
  • Today’s “Clue of the Day” was: In 1922 this archaeologist sent a cable saying, “At last have made wonderful discovery in valley”; it was in the category Famous Names. The correct response: Who is Howard Carter?

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Andrew $30,400 Molly $15,200 Jeff $13,200)

Andrew: Bet $1. (See “Andy’s Thoughts” above.) (Actual bet: $1)

Molly: You need to go all-in here. (Actual bet: $15,200)

Jeff: You can’t win as long as Andrew bets properly, but your chance of finishing second place is best if you bet any amount that isn’t everything. (Actual bet: $2,001)
