Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Flags) for Thursday, November 12, 2020 (Season 37, Game 44):

Both Wales & Bhutan have flags bearing one of these mythical creatures

(correct response beneath the contestants)

We may have lost Alex over the weekend, but the show must go on. Alex wouldn’t want it any other way. Please, let’s remember him over the next seven weeks of banked episodes, and then afford him the same respect to his successors that we afforded him when he replaced Art Fleming in 1984.

Today’s contestants:

Kate Lazo, an assistant athletics director from Menlo Park, California

You can see the flags of Wales (top) and Bhutan (bottom) below; they both have dragons on them. It will be interesting to see if Greg is leading again going into Final Jeopardy! if any of the challengers decide to bet everything based on the fact that Greg didn’t make a standard cover bet in yesterday’s game. This is one reason why the writers do ask easier questions in Final from time to time—in order to keep leaders betting to win.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Normally I’d suggest that Greg bet to take the lead on the final Daily Double, but the fact that Nalin’s score on the final Daily Double was $8,000 exactly means that Greg’s bet of $4,000 was the singular best wager, as it keeps him in contention for a victory on an incorrect response.
  • Because of these scores, though, only Nalin made a good wager in Final Jeopardy; Greg needed to bet everything to defend against Kate’s minimum cover bet, and Kate only needed to bet $3,201—betting more than that risks losing to Greg outright on a sole get from Greg.
  • Kate’s mother is Meg Gardiner, a mystery writer. The Jeopardy! Fan has yet been able to absolutely confirm whether or not Meg’s games are in J! Archive.
