Will Wallace won an important second game yesterday, moving up the standings for Champions Wildcard and/or the 32^nd Tournament of Champions. Today, he hopes to win Game #3 against Kiki Jamieson and Dan Meyer. Podcast listeners paying close attention might have noticed that Inside Jeopardy on Monday noted that Will was an alternate for last week’s games—it’s been noted for awhile that being in the studio to watch a week of games taped prior to appearing has been helpful for some.

“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” was the 1984 charity single written by Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ure (Ultravox/Visage) as a fundraiser for the famine in Ethiopia in the early-to-mid-1980s. After being deeply affected by BBC reports of the famine in the fall of 1984, Geldof began recruiting musicians to take part. The song was recorded in late November, shortly before its release, and became one of the fastest-selling songs of all time in the UK, raising over £8 million for Ethiopia within a year. Harry Belafonte saw how the single was received in the UK and put together “We Are The World” in early 1985 to also fundraise for famine relief.

I don’t know how this one is going to play with an American audience; I think this might have been one clue short (though length is an issue with shoehorning in another clue with this Final.) In what might be a small advantage for Kiki here, “Do They Know It’s Christmas” did go to #1 in Canada.
