Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Countries of Africa) for Tuesday, April 19, 2022 (Season 38, Game 157):
Old maps depicting what’s now this 125,000-square-mile country labeled the area with the French word for “teeth”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Josh Sen, a student from Edison, New Jersey
Tina Disciullo-Acker, a manager of development events from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Mattea Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (10-day total: $227,601)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Mattea Roach continues her winning ways, as the first-ever Canadian superchamp became only the 13th person to win at least 10 games on the show. (Amazingly, four of those have been in the last nine months.) Why is that? Witnessing just how much extra time many of my quizzing friends have had to study trivia, it comes as no surprise that more people are getting better at this. I’m sure that things will revert to normal eventually, but this has been a great ride.
(And, I would also like to point out, that the show’s categories today have used the term “Indian” in its correct usage and context—that being, the demonym for people from India)
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is Côte d’Ivoire?
More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2022 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
The Republic of Côte d’Ivoire has had many names referring to the ivory trade that the area become known for, including the Côte de Dents. “Côte du Vent” was also prevalent due to the offshore windy weather. The Ivorian government has requested that Côte d’Ivoire be used as the official name of the country since 1986 (in spite of this, many English-language news sources, plus Wikipedia, essentially thumb its nose at the request, still using the English translation, “Ivory Coast”.)

Game Recap:
Jeopardy! Round categories: Let’s Get Scientific; The ABCs of Indian Food; Possessive Things; Nonfiction Television; Rhyme Time; I See You There
Mattea had a strong but not dominant opening 30 clues, with our Canadian superchampion picking up 6 on each side of the interviews. Unfortunately for Josh, he dropped a true Daily Double just before the first commercial break, but he rebounded to 50% of Mattea’s score at the second series of commercials.
Double Jeopardy! Round categories: April Fools; My Literary Creations; Policing & Punishment; Religion in the 13th Century; The Cast of the Movie; “ICU” There!
In a more even game than usual on the buzzer, it was Josh who found the first Daily Double—but he dropped another $3,000. After Mattea switched out of the religion category, the last Daily Double felt destined to be found late—and it was Mattea who got to play a Penultimate Wager. Playing it very well, Mattea cemented her runaway on the final clue of the round. Scores going into Final saw Mattea at $17,400, Josh at $8,600, and Tina at $7,000.
Final Jeopardy! was a Triple Stumper, which meant the last Daily Double was crucial—Mattea’s now an 11-game champion! She’ll go for a dozen tomorrow!
