Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

52 weeks to the day after her sibling Evan won—and thus, ironically, Evan being featured on the show’s Daytime Jeopardy! reruns yesterday and today—Libby Jones got to play Giant Killer on Jeopardy! in defeating Harrison Whitaker. Today, she gets to defend her title against a pair of Californians in Eli Selzer and Anne Martyn.

It’s not often that I take time to discuss strategic minutiae in this section, but I do think that this is worth mentioning. One thing I noticed yesterday is that Libby made a very strong Final Jeopardy wager—when in a situation like Libby’s, in second place with your score within four-fifths of the leader (and third place out of contention), the minimum suggested wager is twice the score difference plus one dollar, because, as Stevie Ruiz proved to Evan 52 weeks ago, it is possible for the leader in this situation to make a bet that forces second place to be correct in Final Jeopardy. Second place betting twice the score difference plus a dollar is the best defense against that, with the close difference in score also ensuring that second place still can play for a Triple Stumper and a cover bet from the leader. (And, yes, Evan made sure that Libby was very aware of the possibilities of a four-fifths game before Libby taped; I really liked that Evan took the time to realize where their own strategy went wrong after their appearance and made sure Libby didn’t make the same mistake.)

Brooke Shields has spent nearly her entire life as an A-list celebrity, beginning her career as a model before transitioning into acting, including nude scenes well before turning 18. These roles, approved by her mother Teri even as public worry regarding child sexual abuse was rising, led to many of her films being banned in many jurisdictions. Her career, though, was on hiatus from 1983 through 1987 as she attended—and graduated from—Princeton University.

She was also—and I suspect this is what has caused today’s Final Jeopardy to be relevant in 2025—in a controversial jeans ad, with Shields appearing in an ad for Calvin Klein (with the controversy surrounding whether a 15-year-old should be delivering innuendos in a television advertisement.)
