Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category American Artists) for Tuesday, February 3, 2026 (Season 42, Game 107):

His 1967 New York Times obituary called him a “painter of loneliness”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

TJ Fisher, a marketing specialist from San Francisco, California (0 wins)

TJ Fisher on Jeopardy!

Paolo Pasco, a puzzle writer originally from San Diego, California (1 win)

Paolo Pasco on Jeopardy!

Scott Riccardi, an engineer from Somerville, New Jersey (0 wins)

Scott Riccardi on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Today is Game 2 of the finals of the 33rd Tournament of Champions; Paolo Pasco took Game 1 yesterday, while Scott Riccardi and TJ Fisher need to get on the board. Paolo took over in Double Jeopardy yesterday, finding both Daily Doubles, and he’s been playing well enough that if he keeps finding them, the show is going to need to give us the mini-site for the upcoming Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament incredibly soon.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Upon his death in 1967, Edward Hopper’s obituary appeared on Page 1 of the May 17, 1967 issue of the Times, where he was described as “the celebrated painter of the American scene who was characterized as the painter of loneliness”; his most famous painting was the instantly recognizable nighttime diner scene in Nighthawks.

To me, this feels like the sort of thing one would probably have a reasonable chance of encountering (either the death year or the description) if studying for the ToC; we’ll see how it plays in studio.

Game Recap:

Paolo Pasco got even better at finding the Daily Doubles in this Game 2, finding all of them within the first 3 clues of both rounds (and only 4 of his own selections—I shake my head at the thought that it might be in a category called “Bags”.) From there, Paolo cruised to his second runaway in two games, putting himself “on the hill” to borrow the billiards term, one win away from Tournament of Champions victory and $250,000.

Scores going into Final:

Paolo $31,200
Scott $9,800
TJ $4,600

Tonight’s results:

TJ $4,600 + $3,177 = $7,777 (Who was Hopper Hopper?)
Scott $9,800 + $0 = $9,800 (Who is Hopper?)
Paolo $31,200 + $1,105 = $32,305 (Who is Hopper?) (2 wins)

Paolo Pasco, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the February 3, 2026 game.)

Chances of winning the Tournament of Champions:

Scott Riccardi: 9.976%
Paolo Pasco: 86.469%
TJ Fisher: 3.555%

Chances of 3 games: 40.014%
Chances of 4 games: 23.924%
Chances of 5 games: 20.752%
Chances of 6 games: 11.027%
Chances of 7 games: 4.283%
