Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 20th Century Fiction) for Tuesday, February 8, 2022 (Season 38, Game 107):
The author’s foreword to this novel says, “When I read it now I feel myself back again on the steamer from Aswan to Wadi Halfa”
Are you looking for tonight’s Jeopardy! National College Championship episodes? Tonight’s Quarterfinal #1 information is here, and tonight’s Quarterfinal #2 information is here!
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Andrés Quijano, a student at Cornell University originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico
Krystle Valerio, an executive assistant from Norristown, Pennsylvania
Lawrence Long, a nursing student & stay-at-home uncle from East Bend, North Carolina (1-day total: $23,201)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Lawrence Long, unseated 3-day champion Emma Saltzberg yesterday; today, he attempts to defend his title against Krystle and Andrés. Andrés is the second person introduced as originally from Puerto Rico to compete in the last two seasons, with Puerto Rico unrepresented in J! Archive otherwise.
Way too many Jeopardy! fans only have been unnecessarily heaping abuse on Mayim Bialik as of late. This behavior is unacceptable and only serves to make the fandom as a whole look bad. Regardless of how you feel about the term itself, Mayim’s usage of the term “Single Jeopardy!” is not incorrect—it is a term that the show uses internally itself. The abuse coming from “fans” needs to stop.
Tonight at 8:00pm Eastern/Pacific (7:00pm Mountain/Central) is the first night of the primetime Jeopardy! National College Championship on ABC. This is part of the ABC network’s counter-programming to NBC’s Olympics; thus, if you have misgivings with the IOC, the Winter Olympics host country, or even NBC’s treatment of Leslie Jones, you have something else to watch! This airs separately from the daily syndicated games.
As part of Jeopardy! National College Championship, two full games of Jeopardy! will air as part of each hour-long episode. Here at The Jeopardy! Fan, there will be a separate post for each half-hour game (with the exception of the final on February 22.)
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is Death on the Nile?
More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2022 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Death on the Nile is Agatha Christie’s famous 1937 work of detective fiction featuring the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot on a Nile River steamship tour, touring the Nile between Shellal to Wadi Haifa.
Interestingly, there is a Kenneth Branagh-directed adaptation of the film opening on Friday, with Branagh starring as Hercule Poirot, in spite of Armie Hammer remaining in the film’s cast despite 2021 abuse allegations.

Today’s interviews:
Andrés wanted world domination, eternal life, and a trip to McDonald’s for his fifth birthday.
Krystle found out that her and her twin sister were identical twins, not fraternal.
Lawrence has promised his niece a trip to Hawaii for learning her state capitals.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- A rules reminder for viewers: With regards to THE LAST THOUSAND YEARS $400, failing to phrase in the form of a question in the opening round is a warning offense, not a penalty. Mayim correctly warned Lawrence for his failing to phrase. This has always been the case.
- All 3 of our players today overbet Final Jeopardy. Krystle should have bet $9,801, Lawrence no more than $8,599, and Andrés should have bet $0.
- Because this somehow needs to be said: The starred city on the map on the SOUTH AMERICAN CAPITALS $400 clue—also clearly stated in the clue as the northernmost capital in South America—was very clearly Caracas, Venezuela.
