(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2023 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Oh, cool—another acronym! NATO—which stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization—was an expansion of a Western European defense union known as the Western Union. The initial 12 countries in NATO were Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The “fraternity of peace” statements were made by Senator Arthur Vandenberg (R-Mich.) in forging bipartisan support for Truman’s foreign policy initiatives; one other famed Vandenberg quote is “politics stops at the water’s edge”.

Jared: Standard cover bet over Suresh is $2,401. (Actual bet: $2,401)
Suresh: Make sure you bet at least $2,801 to have any chance at winning. Keep your bet under $6,399, though, to guarantee second place. (Actual bet: $3,000)
Deborah: Bet whatever you like—though I’d suggest not going all-in, just in case Suresh does. (Actual bet: $599)
