Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category News From The Stork) for Tuesday, October 29, 2024 (Season 41, Game 37):

One of the 10 or so babies born at Argentina’s Esperanza Base in this place was fittingly named Marisa de las Nieves

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

John Liu, a marketing analyst from Santa Monica, California

John Liu on Jeopardy!

Aimée Record, a middle school teacher from Long Island, New York

Aimée Record on Jeopardy!

Ian Taylor, a food sales rep originally from Cleveland, Ohio (1-day total: $19,601)

Ian Taylor on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Cleveland’s Ian Taylor had a very strong performance in general last night in preventing Will Wallace from reaching five victories. Today, he faces off in his title defense against Aimée Record and John Liu.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

There are two permanently-inhabited-by-civilian bases on the continent of Antarctica: Argentina’s Esperanza Base and Chile’s Villa Las Estrellas, with Esperanza Base dating back to 1953. Marisa de las Nieves (de las Nieves translating from Spanish to “of the snows”) was the first woman born on the base in 1978.

Assuming contestants can make the translation of “nieves” = “snows”, this should be a straightforward Final Jeopardy clue, in my opinion.

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Alaskan Cities; Singing Through The Centuries; Reality & Competition TV Shows; Going Deep On The Fast Food Menu; Sorry, No Shake Today; The Machine’s Broken)

Aimée 3 correct 0 incorrect
John 3 correct 0 incorrect
Ian 3 correct 3 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

John graduated college at the age of 15.
Aimée had bridesmaids with significant academic credentials.
Ian worked on a crab fishing boat for two days in Chesapeake Bay as a teenager.

Aimée had a strong time, picking up 4 correct to extend her lead as Ian got out of the hole.

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Historic Women; Time For Some Drama; An “A” In Psychology; Join Up!; Movie Outlaws; Prefixes)

Oh no! John forgot his phrasing for the second time on DD2—and in that instance, it’s an incorrect response. While John got DD3 correct, a number of Triple Stumpers led to a low score going into Final and John not having a runaway.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

John 13 correct 1 incorrect
Ian 14 correct 5 incorrect
Aimée 9 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 3 (1 today).

Scores going into Final:

John $5,600
Ian $3,400
Aimée $600

Both Ian and John were correct in Final; that makes John the new Jeopardy! champion! He’ll be back tomorrow to defend.

Tonight’s results:

Aimée $600 – $598 = $2 (What is Buenos Aires?)
Ian $3,400 + $2,201 = $5,601 (What is Antarctica?)
John $5,600 + $2,201 = $7,801 (What is Antarctica) (1-day total: $7,801)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • A reminder to all viewers that failure to phrase is a warning offense in the Jeopardy! Round and a penalty offense in Double Jeopardy or on Daily Doubles. Ken handled both situations 100% properly per the rules of the show.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: John $5,600 Ian $3,400 Aimée $600)

Ian: I would bet between $1,200 and $2,199. (Actual bet: $2,201)

Aimée: Bet whatever you like—though you might be able to sneak into second with an all-in bet if Ian bets to try to pass John by $1. (Actual bet: $598)

John: Standard cover bet over Ian is $1,201. (Actual bet: $2,201)
