Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Books of the 1970s) for Wednesday, August 31, 2022 (Season 38, Game 164):

Aptly, members of a Black family in this novel have Biblical names: Pilate, Hagar & the title one, an ancestor of the protagonist

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Manav Jain, an undergraduate student from Clemson, South Carolina

Manav Jain on Jeopardy!

Renée Russell, a branch office administrator from Baltimore, Maryland

Renée Russell on Jeopardy!

Mattea Roach, a tutor from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (17-day total: $396,182)

Mattea Roach on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Today’s game originally aired on April 28, 2022.

“Best of Season 38” continues with Mattea Roach’s run continuing; today, Renée Russell shows why she received an invite to this October’s Second Chance Tournament with her performance in this game.

There has been some confusion in the Washington, D.C. area in recent weeks as to a possible change in airing schedule. However, after further investigation, it appears as though “Daytime Jeopardy”—the rerun that airs during daytime on many stations—will be airing at 3:30 on WJLA; the normal first-run episode will air as per normal at 7:30 on WJLA.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2022 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Song of Solomon was the third novel of Nobel Prize-winning African-American author Toni Morrison, and it follows the life of “Milkman” Dead III, whose ancestor, named Solomon, was Milkman’s great-grandfather. From the Nobel Prize’s press release in 1993 honoring Morrison, “The Solomon of the title, the southern ancestor, was to be found in the songs of childhood games. His inner intensity had borne him back, like Icarus, through the air to the Africa of his roots.”
