Correct response: What is satellite?

Johannes Kepler coined the term “satellite” when using the telescope to confirm Galileo’s observing of four moons of Jupiter, naming that work Narratio de Observatis Quatuor Jovis Satellitibus (Narration about Four Satellites of Jupiter observed) that also served to confirm the heliocentric Copernican model of the universe. It’s now more generally defined as “a moon, planet, or machine that orbits a planet or star” (NASA).
Since Alex Trebek’s diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, many community members have been raising money. The Jeopardy! Fan Online Store is as well! Andy’s Thoughts:
- MacKenzie becomes the 15th player in Jeopardy! history to win at least $200,000 in regular play.
- Alex sure is having a good time poking fun at MacKenzie’s spelling. Of course, the rules are such that the response only need be spelled phonetically correct, and “satalite” certainly is.
- Fun fact: Back in Season 1, the question of “who picks first in Double Jeopardy! when there’s a tie for second after the Jeopardy! round?” was broken in favour of the player who game the most recent correct response. I am unsure of when the rule changed to “the player whose lectern is closest to Alex makes the selection”.
- This week’s games were the first regular games taped following the Greatest of All Time matches; to me, it seemed like the LITERARY LEE category may have been originally written for that event (at least, it seemed to play very difficultly).
- If you’re in Cleveland, it sounds like WOIO had some technical difficulties and failed to play the Double Jeopardy! round.
