Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Brands) for Wednesday, June 19, 2024 (Season 40, Game 203):

In 1978 a new cologne for men came out called this, what’s being played in the company’s iconic logo

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Tekla Sauter, a nonprofit strategist from Chicago, Illinois

Tekla Sauter on Jeopardy!

Drew Basile, a graduate student from Birmingham, Michigan

Drew Basile on Jeopardy!

Adriana Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana (15-day total: $349,600)

Adriana Harmeyer on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Adriana Harmeyer is a 15-day champion; today she goes for win #16. One thing that I have found fascinating about Adriana’s run is that her last 8 victories have not come from runaways—it’s probably a good thing that she has been correct on her last 11 Final Jeopardy clues!

Another great thing about superchampion runs in general is the wondering if today is going to be the day that the streak comes to an end. Certainly, today’s challengers Tekla Sauter and Drew Basile (a recent Survivor alumnus) hope it ends today!

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Ralph Lauren had already had a decade of clothing success with his now-famous Polo line and ubiquitous short-sleeved cotton shirts when he expanded his line to fragrances. March 1978 saw the introduction of Lauren for women and Polo for men; the fragrance used the famous logo of a polo player on a horse wielding a mallet.

On the one hand, this does feel like a relatively straightforward Final Jeopardy clue. On the other: the number of great champions over the years who have been felled by business-type clues has been an interesting trend over the last three decades.

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Poetic Objects; Roped In; Movie Refreshments; Oprah-Pourri; The White House; Take To Task)

Today’s game was an Adriana–Drew battle early, with Drew doing well at the top of the board, but Adriana held a $100 lead on the strength of the Daily Double. At the interviews, Adriana had $4,500, Drew had $4,400, and Tekla $800.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Adriana 6 correct 0 incorrect
Drew 8 correct 0 incorrect
Tekla 1 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Tekla married someone who grew up a block away from a St. Tekla’s church.
Drew lasted 23 days on Survivor.
Adriana was diagnosed with gluten intolerance; she recommends almond flour in desserts.

Adriana picked up another half-dozen correct responses in the second half of the round, and used it to jump out to a good-sized lead after 30 clues.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Adriana 12 correct 0 incorrect
Drew 10 correct 1 incorrect
Tekla 5 correct 0 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Drew $5,600
Tekla $3,200

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Historic Ships; TV Tidbits; It Was Once The Capital; “G”-Men; General Science; Russian Lingo)

Our turning point in this one was the 16th clue of Double Jeopardy: Drew picked up $10,000 on a Daily Double; from there, Tekla found the last one, and her conservative bet meant that Drew had a runaway going into Final Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Drew 21 correct 4 incorrect
Tekla 13 correct 0 incorrect
Adriana 16 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 20 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Drew $23,600
Tekla $10,600
Adriana $9,300

Tekla was the only player correct in Final; however, Drew’s runaway makes him the giant giant killer! He’ll go for win #2 tomorrow.

Tonight’s results:

Adriana $9,300 – $1,400 = $7,900 (What is Axe?)
Tekla $10,600 + $8,001 = $18,601 (What is Polo?)
Drew $23,600 – $118 = $23,482 (What is Jeopardy?) (1-day total: $23,482)

Drew Basile, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the June 19, 2024 game.)
