Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category The Medical World) for Wednesday, June 28, 2023 (Season 39, Game 208):

He created a chest drain valve that aided breathing in wounded soldiers in Vietnam but is better known for a lifesaving measure

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Bryan White, a senior regulatory compliance analyst originally from Santa Maria, California

Bryan White on Jeopardy!

Vic Goel, a lawyer from Vienna, Virginia

Vic Goel on Jeopardy!

Chris Ban, an oral & facial surgeon from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (1-day total: $13,000)

Chris Ban on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Chris Ban is your new Jeopardy! champion, winning $13,000 yesterday; he said in yesterday’s interview that he hopes to donate the winnings towards a boathouse at his alma mater in his late brother’s memory (Chris’s brother passed away from brain cancer last year). Today, your challengers are Vic Noel and Bryan White—who, from a strategic gameplay perspective, hopefully noticed that Chris did not bet to cover third place in yesterday’s game. I definitely would seriously consider going all-in from a trailing position today if Chris holds a lead going into Final.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2023 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

In medicine, American thoracic surgeon Henry Heimlich is best known for two things: a chest drainage flutter valve that helps drain blood and air out of the chest cavity (thereby allowing a collapsed lung to re-expand), and the Heimlich maneuver, the technique of using abdominal thrusts in order to aid a choking victim. The Heimlich maneuver is intended as a method of last resort, due to its potential to cause further injury on the victim.
