Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Famous Speeches) for Wednesday, May 25, 2022 (Season 38, Game 183):
In a draft of FDR’s speech of December 8, 1941, the words “world history” were changed to this one word
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Noura Dabbouseh, a physician from Clarendon Hills, Illinois
Kris Olson, a high school music teacher from Lexington, Kentucky
Ryan Long, a rideshare driver from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (8-day total: $160,401)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Ryan Long of Philadelphia is now at eight victories; he’s only the 24th person to win 8. Only 16 people have won 9; will Ryan become the 17th? Lexington high school music teacher Kri Olson and Chicagoland physician Noura Dabbouseh are your challengers today. Will either of them take down our champion?
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

“Yesterday, December 7th, 1941—a date which will live in world history—the United States was simultaneously and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan”. Those were the initial words in the first draft of FDR’s very famous speech to Congress and the world of December 8, following the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. During editing, the opening became the famous and oft-quoted “Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”

Game Recap:
Jeopardy! Round categories: Let’s Get Historical; Movie Supervillains; Fun with U.S. City Flags; ’80s & ’90s Nonfiction; 5-Letter “W”s; Bond Appetit!
This round was nearly all Ryan; our defending champion picked up nineteen correct in this round! Neither challenger was heard from much; however, Kris did manage to find the round’s Daily Double, and went from $200 to $1200 on it.
Double Jeopardy! Round categories: Rough National Anthem Lyrics; The One Before the Famous One; My Name is Stephen; Lending TV Support; It’s the Jurassic Period; Here Comes a Bronte Thesaurus
As much as Ryan dominated Single Jeopardy!, he struggled in Double Jeopardy, picking up only 9 correct (to 4 incorrect). Meanwhile, Kris had his chances, but was unable to get either Daily Double correct. The $2,700 he lost ended up being crucial, as it let Ryan use the last clue played in Double to cement a runaway. (For the record: There’s no way Mayim can be blamed for the two unplayed clues today, as Double Jeopardy! saw 7 incorrect responses and 6 Triple Stumpers). Scores going into Final were Ryan at $12,800, Kris at $6,300, and Noura at $4,200.
Kris and Ryan got Final correct today, and Ryan added a nominal $100 to his total in becoming a 9-day champion! He’s now the 17th to win 9 and he looks to become the 14th to win at least 10 tomorrow!

Final Jeopardy! betting suggestions:
(Scores: Ryan $12,800 Kris $6,300 Noura $4,200)
Ryan: Bet anywhere between $0 and $199, and enjoy your 9th victory! (Actual bet: $100)
Kris: Standard cover bet over Noura is $2,101. However, with Ryan not having much of a runaway margin, you might want to bet everything just in case Ryan pulls a Clavin. (Actual bet: $6,300)
Noura: If Kris bets to cover, he falls to $4,199. Bet $0. (Actual bet: $4,000)
