Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category The Roman Catholic Church) for Wednesday, October 23, 2024 (Season 41, Game 33):

This day involving the Holy Spirit & the Apostles is sometimes described as the “birthday” of the church

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Brett Kelly, an actor from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

Sophia Maymudes, a software engineer from Seattle, Washington

Sophia Maymudes on Jeopardy!

Will Wallace, a game design director from Austin, Texas (1-day total: $18,799)

Will Wallace on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Will Wallace is your new Jeopardy! champion after he was the only player to get Final Jeopardy correct in yesterday’s battle. In his first title defense, he faces off against a couple of West Coasters: Sophia Maymudes from Seattle and Brett Kelly from the Vancouver suburb of Surrey.

It’s been pointed out over the last couple of days that Brett has some movie credits—as someone who generally doesn’t consume a lot of movies, this doesn’t mean a great deal to me personally. But, yes, working actors do get to come on game shows—people who don’t get starring roles in major motion pictures are not exactly wealthy individuals.

Correct response: What is Pentecost?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Pentecost (celebrated 50 days after Easter) is considered to be the birthday of the Catholic Church because it is said that the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles as the apostles were hiding following Jesus’s resurrection. Having then received the power and the gift of the Holy Spirit, the apostles began preaching and carrying out Jesus’s message.

Even as a writer who generally leans in an agnostic direction when it comes to religion, knowledge of major religious works—especially the Bible—is crucial to having a general understanding of significant portions of Western literature and artwork.

Brett 4 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 2 (0 today).
