Warning: This page may contain spoilers for the January 3, 2024 game of Jeopardy! UK, especially for those of you watching delayed or on-demand. This page will be updated during each commercial break as the show airs.

Today’s contestants:

Brendan Curtis, a radiographer from Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Brendan Curtis on Jeopardy! UK
Kit Lane, a graphic designer from Greenhithe, Kent
Kit Lane on Jeopardy! UK
Miles Searle, a student from Wimbledon (1-day total: £5,450)
Miles Searle on Jeopardy! UK

Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

Miles Searle was cruising in yesterday’s matchup—until he punted £1,000 on a Daily Double that he then got incorrect. However, he ended up champion after Steph O’Donoghue got Final Jeopardy incorrect herself! Today, he faces off against Kit Lane and Brendan Curtis; interestingly, I believe that Brendan does have OQL experience and is a strong player in OQL; it will be interesting to see how well he does!

Another reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!

The first Daily Double went Brendan’s way, and heartbreakingly, his £2,000 punt didn’t work out as his mind blanked and he just couldn’t pull the correct response in time. Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Considering how much money is on the American board ($54,000) compared to the British one (£9,600), Miles’s winnings of £11,525 would be the equivalent of someone having won just under $65,000 in two games Stateside.
  • Stephen certainly offended the Quebec nationalist movement today, and his statement that Quebec is not a nation is certainly inconsistent with Canadian legislation.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Miles £3,075 Kit £2,975 Brendan £325)

Miles: Standard cover bet is £2,876. (Actual bet: £3,000)

Kit: Limit your bet to £2,324 to keep Brendan shut out. (Actual bet: £1,000)

Brendan: Limit your bet to £125 or less to stay ahead of Miles if he gets Final incorrect. (Actual bet: £325)

More Information about Final Jeopardy!:

This was a relatively straightforward Final Jeopardy clue today; from north to south, Japan’s four major islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. Most of Japan’s major population centers, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Kobe, are all located on Honshu.

  1. Andy, what you explained about Japan’s four major islands explains to me why I guessed Honshu, being the only province I could recall ever hearing of and assuming that as Japan is an island nation it would be reasonable for the largest islands to each be single provinces [which I now know to be incorrect]. I knew I would just be lucky if Honshu was correct. So, not lucky.

[I also now know that Honshu just translates into English as “main province”.]

  2. I was confused at first watching this version for the first time when they did the jeopardy round twice. I like this formula as having a 4th daily double overall makes for a big difference in strategy and potential money totals. Also the music nerd in me noticed they used the old they from a few seasons ago for the opening and the current version during the credits.
