Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:
Much like the 30th Tournament of Champions in the fall of 2022, Jeopardy! wanted to give its three seeded players an opportunity to play a game alongside the quarterfinalists, so that everyone had the same opportunity on the signalling device prior to the semifinals. Thus, Adriana Harmeyer, Isaac Hirsch, and Drew Basile have been given an exhibition game, which is airing tonight exclusively on TuneIn’s Jeopardy! Radio channel at 7:00 PM Eastern. (Or, you can listen to the channel here on The Jeopardy! Fan as well.) If you missed the episode and are looking to listen to it on demand, you can find the episode on TuneIn as well.
The prediction model here has Isaac as a slight favorite to take victory, but being that everyone is playing to get used to Jeopardy! again, I would certainly take any predictions here with a very large amount of salt.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- It’s almost as if the show completely forgot everything from last year’s audio games. This game was almost completely impossible to follow. When you are audio only, contestants need to be required to say the full category and clue value. Quotation marks need to be explicitly given. And we need score updates at the Daily Doubles and at each break. This should be non-negotiable and it is a complete travesty that this episode did not have that. This is unacceptable for Jeopardy fans and the show needs to do better.
- Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

What I’m interested in seeing when it comes to this exhibition game is whether the contestants, knowing this game counts for absolutely nothing, will treat it with the same silliness that Amy, Matt, and Mattea treated their exhibition game. I could see that – especially considering Drew and Isaac’s occasionally goofy nature – and I could just as easily see them playing it as though it were an actual game of Jeopardy.
Just because I can, I decided to compare the exhibition match in the 2022 ToC to both Masters matches that featured The Big Three, stats wise. This probably isn’t useful for anything, but I’m doing it anyway because I find numbers fun. 🙂
(Note: the first number in every metric is for the exhibition game, the second is for Quarterfinal #9 of the 2023 edition of Masters, and the third is for Quarterfinal #7 of the 2024 edition. See if you can tell which game had the silliness factor to it.)
Combined Score (entering Final): $28,600 / $50,800 / $52,400
Combined Coryat: $26,000 / $45,800 / $36,400
Total Correct Responses (main game): 51 / 55 / 53
Total Incorrect Answers (main game): 18 / 5 / 7
Coryat Lost To Incorrect Responses: $19,800 / $5,200 / $6,000
At the very least, though, this game should be some rather fun Jeopardy. 😀
Beyond what Andy already mentioned, there was no way to know when contestants were getting video clues other than when Ken mentioned it once in passing. The Esperanto category was not good for this format; very frustrating not to be able to see the words written out. I imagine others might feel the same way about the anagrams category.
I would have loved to have gotten that Heartbreakers question in an exhibition game. Would’ve answered “Johnny Thunders” without hesitation.
