Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

This week’s opening match is between The Trebekkies, Karen’s Last Ziti, and Twisted Misters. A few notes going into this one: I feel like there are definitely some main-show alumni in this matchup, but my inability to properly recognize faces strikes again: I am struggling to specifically place some of these contestants. Meanwhile, Twisted Misters will probably go far; they were the Season 2 champions on World Series of Pop Culture, and I feel as though they’re in for a repeat performance. But this is all being written before I watch: my predictions have been wrong before and I’m sure they’ll be wrong again in the future!

In the middle for the recording sessions for their Toys in the Attic album, Aerosmith and producer Jack Douglas went to see “Young Frankenstein”. Still laughing afterward about Marty Feldman’s character telling Gene Wilder’s character to “walk this way,” it was suggested that they use that to title a song that Joe Perry had written some guitar riffs to while the group had been in Hawaii opening for the Guess Who. Steven Tyler wrote some lyrics, and the song become one of Aerosmith’s best known.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Here’s the recap for Season 1, Episode 13:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: I’m Judging You; Behind: The Music; “Stupid” Answers; One-Liners; Book To Movie; You’ve Hit The Jackpot!)

Twisted Misters found the Daily Double early and thus could only get 1,000 from it. They still led after 15 clues, though—scores after 15 were Twisted Misters 5,200 The Trebekkies 2,600 Karen’s Last Ziti 1,000.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Twisted Misters 8 correct 0 incorrect
The Trebekkies 5 correct 1 incorrect
Karen’s Last Ziti 2 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Twisted Misters wants to continue their “heel arc” after their appearance on “World Series of Pop Culture”.
Karen’s Last Ziti are huge fans of The Sopranos.
The Trebekkies thinks Thomas is the most competitive.

A Triple Play sweep from Karen’s Last Ziti brought them right back into contention; by the end of the round, they had taken the lead in a well-played round by all three teams that only saw one clue fall for a Triple Stumper.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Karen’s Last Ziti 10 correct 0 incorrect
Twisted Misters 10 correct 1 incorrect
The Trebekkies 11 correct 2 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Karen’s Last Ziti 7,000
Twisted Misters 5,800
The Trebekkies 4,800

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Film Debuts; Bold-Fashioned; Planes, Trains & Automobiles; Comedians; I Love The ’80s; The Missing Member)

“Oh my goodness gosh! I like this game!” (Colin’s words, not mine.) Much like the opening round, Twisted Misters started hot, but Karen’s Last Ziti swept the Triple Play to come back into contention. The Daily Doubles were still to be found, though, and the Twisted Misters bet 10,000 on DD2, forcing The Trebekkies to go all in for 12,400 on DD3. Unfortunately, an incorrect response dropped The Trebekkies out of contention and taking Twisted Misters to a runaway after Double Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Twisted Misters 21 correct 1 incorrect
Karen’s Last Ziti 19 correct 0 incorrect
The Trebekkies 19 correct 5 incorrect

Scores going into Final:

Twisted Misters 27,800
Karen’s Last Ziti 13,000
The Trebekkies 2,000

Colin teased some “crazy wagering”, but there was nothing too crazy, considering the prize structure. The Trebekkies and Twisted Misters got this Final correct as the Twisted Misters advance to the next round!

Tonight’s results:

The Trebekkies 2,000 + 2,000 = 4,000 (What is “Walk This Way” :))
Karen’s Last Ziti 13,000 – 13,000 = 0 (What Dude Looks like a Lady?)
Twisted Misters 27,800 + 0 = 27,800 (What is Walk this way?) (Quarter-Finalist)
