Here’s the Pop Culture Jeopardy Final Jeopardy (in the category Band Names) for Wednesday, February 26, 2025 (Season 1, Game 37):

July 14 is the birthday of the founder of this British band that had a hit in 2013 about an Italian city

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Pop Culture Jeopardy! contestants:

South Shore Squad, Daniel, Amy, and Jack
South Shore Squad on Pop Culture Jeopardy!
Mission Impopsicle, Stan, Abigail, and Simon
Mission Impopsicle on Pop Culture Jeopardy!
Personality Hires, Emily, Zach, and Miranda
Personality Hires on Pop Culture Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

It’s Semifinal Week on Pop Culture Jeopardy!; today’s opening semifinal is between Personality Hires, Mission Impopsicle, and South Shore Squad.

I do feel the need to reiterate that the way the show was set up for taping, the field of 81 was split into three groups of 27. This means that unless the show was going to last-minute pay for 9 teams to return to Los Angeles instead of 3, that we may have two very strong teams in the same semifinal. I do believe that’s what has happened here, and I think the inevitable fan complaints about this are making unrealistic demands of a television production and are, in my opinion, completely invalid. In fact, when this match was taped, the show would have had no idea what would happen in the other two brackets.

Dan Smith, the founder of British indie pop band Bastille, was born on July 14—Bastille Day, hence the name Bastille. Their biggest hit was the 2013 track “Pompeii”.

For the second week in a row, we see a Final Jeopardy clue that was just about identical to a question that I asked many years ago in pub quiz. This time around, though, there’s no way that any of the players from The Bullpen (or even The Team From Toronto) could have been destined to play this one.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Personality Hires 24,700 Mission Impopsicle 21,200 South Shore Squad 11,400)

Personality Hires: Standard cover bet over Mission Impopsicle is 17,701. (Actual bet: 17,701)

Mission Impopsicle: Standard cover bet over South Shore Squad is 1,601. You could safely bet up to 5,399 here, but I’m always a fan of “don’t bet any more than you have to”, just in case the South Shore Squad bet based on vibes. (Actual bet: 5,000)

South Shore Squad: If Personality Hires are incorrect in Final Jeopardy, they fall to 6,999. Your choice in bets here depends on what you think Mission Impopsicle will do, as you can’t defend against both a small bet from them and stay in front of a Personality Hires cover bet. If you think Impopsicle will bet 5,400 or less, bet at least 8,200. If you think Impopsicle will make a big bet, go small yourself and bet no more than 4,400. (Actual bet: 11,400)

  1. I think we had THREE very strong teams in this semi-final, but will admit I’m not impartial.

  2. Regarding what Amy said: I think so as well.
