Jeopardy! UK Game Recap – Thursday, March 27, 2025

Are you looking for today’s US Jeopardy recap? Find that here!

Warning: This page may contain spoilers for the March 27, 2025 game of Jeopardy! UK, especially for those of you watching delayed or on-demand. This page will be updated during each commercial break as the show airs.

Today’s contestants:

Margaret Brecknell, a writer from Lancashire
Margaret Brecknell on Jeopardy!
Dan Afshar, an events manager from Kingston upon Thames
Dan Afshar on Jeopardy!
Abby Hallett, an alumni relations officer from Berkshire (4-day total: £12,075)
Abby Hallett on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

Both UK and US versions of the show currently have 4-day returning champions; normalizing Abby’s winnings thus far to a 54,000-unit board like the American version has, Abby Hallett leads Josh Weikert 62,100 to 59,202. Today, over in Dear Old Blighty, Abby goes for victory #5 against Kingston upon Thames’s Dan Afshar and Lancashire’s Margaret Brecknell.

In the aftermath of yesterday’s game, I’ve learned that the consolation prize is £100 for second place—though, unlike the American version, the contestant’s travel expenses get covered on British shows, a different proposition than American regular play, where the $2,000 and $3,000 given to players for second and third are intended to cover the trip. While the £100 for second place shouldn’t affect the wagering calculus, as it is still in your best interests to play for the win even if you put your chances of victory at 1%, it appears to have done so yesterday.

Abby: Standard cover bet over Dan is £1,626. (Actual bet: £1,500)

Dan: Bet no more than £649 to keep Margaret locked out. However, if you don’t think Abby will bet to cover, then going all in is a viable strategy. (Actual bet: £2,000)

Margaret: You have to be correct to have a chance of winning. You might as well go all in to have a chance. (Actual bet: £675)

  1. I would like to apologize for any retroactive jinxing that was done yesterday… oops!

  2. My first thought had been Ethiopia (which I now know Eritrea split off from), but then remembered I knew its capital was Addis Ababa. I had my thinking on Eritrea backward [as in it existed in Biblical times but not now] because of having heard that the language Eritrean has been used in translating ancient Bibles. So I just made a stab at guessing Madagascar. Now that I know its capital does begin with an ‘A’ and has more ‘a’s within it, I wonder if I’d actually heard its name before, making Asmara sound kind of good for it.

I was similar… narrowed it down to “countries I can’t name the capital of” and guessed Burundi. That’s really interesting about the history of the country and its language, I didn’t know any of it.

Incidentally, I recognise Dan as the captain of the team that finished second in last year’s series of Only Connect, the “Also-Rans”. That team comprised of the three beaten finalists from a previous series of Mastermind. Not an also-ran any more!
