Here’s the Pop Culture Jeopardy Final Jeopardy (in the category Character Inspirations) for Wednesday, March 5, 2025 (Season 1, Game 40):

The actor who supplied the voice for this character in 4 films from 2001 to 2012 based the voice on his cat hacking up hairballs

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Pop Culture Jeopardy! contestants:

Queerly Benevolent, Anya, Dana, and Scott
Queerly Benevolent on Pop Culture Jeopardy!
Buggsy Mogues, Ryan, Lauren, and Eric
Buggsy Mogues on Pop Culture Jeopardy!
Personality Hires, Emily, Zach, and Miranda
Personality Hires on Pop Culture Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Today sees the airing of the final game of Pop Culture Jeopardy! of Season 1, between the Personality Hires, Buggsy Mogues, and Queerly Benevolent. All three of these teams have won three times to get here and are all very strong. One noteworthy stat that I’ve noticed is that Buggsy Mogues have only given two incorrect responses the entire tournament. I’d be hard-pressed to predict a winner in this one.

Here’s the recap for Season 1, Episode 40:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Just Another Teen Movie; Women In Rock; Mugshots; Accessories To Wedlock; Comic Books & Graphic Novels; Made It To The “Final”)

15 clues, 15 correct responses. That’s how you’d expect a final to start. After 15 clues, the Personality Hires led with 4,200 to Queerly Benevolent’s 3,400 and Buggsy Mogues’s 3,200.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Personality Hires 6 correct 0 incorrect
Queerly Benevolent 5 correct 0 incorrect
Buggsy Mogues 4 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Queerly Benevolent has a Green Room ritual by channeling the energy of Amy Schneider and Mattea Roach’s pictures from the Green Room.
Buggsy Mogues were concerned about nine people on stage buzzing in.
Personality Hires has Emily, who will be getting a “Radical Optimism” tattoo after a semifinal Daily Double.

The Daily Double stayed out quite late, as the Personality Hires picked it up and used it to take a big lead into Double Jeopardy. However, they did not go all in, leaving 1,900 points on the table.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Personality Hires 15 correct 1 incorrect
Queerly Benevolent 8 correct 0 incorrect
Buggsy Mogues 7 correct 0 incorrect

Buggsy Mogues 4,000

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: TV Families; Music Royalty; The Great White (& Diverse) Way; Canadians; Sports Movies; Alphabetically Last)

Buggsy Mogues went for it on DD2; unfortunately, their only DD miss of the competition found them back at 0. In quite the anticlimax, they then found DD3 on their next selection. Once the round finished up, Personality Hires finished 101 points short of a runaway going into Final.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Personality Hires 28 correct 2 incorrect
Queerly Benevolent 13 correct 0 incorrect
Buggsy Mogues 16 correct 2 incorrect

Scores going into Final:

Personality Hires 21,500
Queerly Benevolent 10,800
Buggsy Mogues 4,400

Buggsy Mogues was the only team correct in Final, which makes the Personality Hires our $300,000 champions!

Tonight’s results:

Buggsy Mogues 4,400 + 44 = 4,444 (Who is Gollum?) ($50,000)
Queerly Benevolent 10,800 – 1,999 = 8,801 (Who is Michael Che?) ($100,000)
Personality Hires 21,500 – 101 = 21,399 (Who is Donkey?) ($300,000)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Although the math does say to play for the win here (see below), it would not surprise me if this situation—and Queerly Benevolent’s clear choice to play for second because of the extra $50,000—was the precipitating factor behind the recent choice of the show to make second and third place in tournaments worth the same amount of money.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Personality Hires 21,500 Queerly Benevolent 10,800 Buggsy Mogues 4,400)

Personality Hires: Standard cover bet is 101. (Actual bet: 101)

Buggsy Mogues: Second place does matter here. Your best chance of second place will happen if you bet no more than 4,199. (Actual bet: 44)

Queerly Benevolent: If you go all in here, the historical data suggests that you have about a 20% chance of winning $300,000 (you correct, Personality Hires not), a 30% chance of winning $100,000 (both you and Personality Hires correct), and a 50% chance of winning $50,000 (you incorrect). (20% x 300,000) + (30% x 100,000) + (50% x 50,000) = $115,000, which is more than the $100,000 guarantee for second. On average, you do win $15,000 more by playing to win here. (Actual bet: 1,999)

Congratulations to Personality Hires for being this year’s Pop Culture Jeopardy champions and winning the $300,000 prize!

  2. You’re right, we were playing for a guaranteed second place finish because of the prize money difference!

  3. Congratulations to the Personality Hires for an excellent victory, very well done!

If a bonus prize for winning this was that all three got an extra chance on the standard show… well, I wouldn’t complain at all 🙂
