Warning: This page may contain spoilers for the April 9, 2025 game of Jeopardy! UK, especially for those of you watching delayed or on-demand. This page will be updated during each commercial break as the show airs.
Today’s contestants:
Ben Jones, a hotel receptionist from Caerphilly![]() |
Claire Murphy, a communications manager from Bromley![]() |
Dan Afshar, an events manager from Kingston upon Thames (7-day total: £24,200)![]() |
Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:
Dan Afshar has won two more games than anyone else has in the two series of UK Jeopardy!; however, he is still £6,351 behind Michael Hutchinson’s 5-day total of £30,551 last series. Will today be the end of the line for Dan, though, as he faces off against Claire Murphy of Bromley and Ben Jones of Caerphilly?
One thing that I am starting to notice: as always seems to be the case when contestants start rattling off a large number of victories, a small portion of the viewing audience begins to cheer against the champion. And, as I have said numerous times over the years to American fans: not every single thought you have in your head needs to be posted on social media. You are allowed to keep some thoughts to yourself.

Dan found DD4 immediately after the break, but bet just £425; there wasn’t enough left on the board afterwards to get him to a runaway position, though. Andy’s Thoughts:
- It’s harder to suggest in the UK that Dan play for a runaway on DD4. If this was a US game, it would be automatic, but in my opinion, the UK writing staff doesn’t have as much experience writing for this format, and difficulty between categories hasn’t quite been calibrated as tightly as a US board would be.
- Lake Garda, near Verona, shares its name with the Irish “garda”, their national police force.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Dan £4,050 Ben £3,000 Claire £1,225)
Dan: Standard cover bet is £1,951. (Actual bet: £2,000)
Claire: You have to be correct to win. Go all in. (Actual bet: £1,225)
Ben: Bet no more than £549 to keep Claire locked out. (Actual bet: £3,000)

A great episode – all three played really well and it felt like a really nice game today played in a particularly good spirit with everyone enjoying it.
Congratulations, Ben (great winning score!) and bad luck today, Dan – a great champion though. I’m sorry to hear about the outbreak of ‘tall poppy syndrome’ towards Dan on social media – he certainly does not deserve that.
I got the FJ today – via the police link as I did not know Garda meant ‘guardian’ in Gaelic.
I should have thought of Garda due to at least one UK police series I’ve seen on PBS, though the only lake I know of in Italy was Como — bet anyone can guess why. [Though I thought it was spelled Cuomo, so I wouldn’t have been correct even if I had been “right”.]
