Isaac Hirsch on Jeopardy!
Yogesh Raut, an educational blogger, podcast host & writer originally from Springfield, Illinois (14-14, 1 point)
Yogesh Raut on Jeopardy!
Victoria Groce, a writer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (17-6, 3 points)
Victoria Groce on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

The round robin continues in the second half of this episode, with Victoria and Yogesh taking on Isaac Hirsch, and Juveria sitting out. (Don’t worry, Yogesh and Victoria will only play once apiece next Tuesday.)

I’d also at this time like to address the claims I’ve seen some make on the Internet regarding strength of schedule between Isaac Hirsch and Matt Amodio, the two players who ended the quarterfinal round in fourth and fifth place. Over their respective five games this season, Matt has had an average opponent strength of 15,962 (as per the Unified Prediction Model’s average Adjusted Performance Mean data), while Isaac has had an an average opponent strength of 16,097 (as per the same metric). Thus, I think we can say that any claims that Isaac qualified via a significantly weaker schedule than Matt as complete hogwash.

Using the data coming into the semifinals, as I haven’t seen the first game of the semifinals yet when publishing these predictions, Victoria has a 42.3% chance of winning as per the Unified Prediction Model, compared to 36.2% for Yogesh and 21.5% for Isaac.

2 Comments on "Jeopardy! Masters Recap – Wednesday, May 28, 2025 (Game 2)"

  1. Hats off to Victoria. At this point, she is playing a great tournament. Yogesh played very well in the second game. He was close to making it a runaway but couldn’t quite get there. In the end, that cost him (that and not knowing the FJ answer). At this point, it seems that the final will come down to either Yogesh or Victoria (and if I had to pick one, I would say Victoria). With Isaac and Juveria battling to see who will get the auto bid to next years Masters Tournament. But we shall see.

Depending on the categories, I can hold my own in regular Jeopardy games. But with the Masters Tournament, I am much more of an observer. Still enjoyable to watch people at the top of their specialty at work.

  2. I figured it out after some 10-15 seconds while watching the episode. To make sure I could finish writing down the response before the time runs out, I would have written “anafilaxis” even though I knew the proper spelling.
