Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Country Names) for Monday, April 13, 2026 (Season 42, Game 156):
In the 1850s it was part of the Granadine Confederation; today it’s named for a man who never set foot in the country
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Catherine Hoffman, a children’s librarian from Clarkston, Michigan
|
Erik Bubolz, an attorney originally from Okemos, Michigan
|
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (21-day total: $609,000)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
A new week of Jeopardy! begins with what is essentially an all-Michigan matchup; challengers Catherine Hoffman of Clarkston and Erik Bubolz of Okemos take on 21-day champion Jamie Ding, who went to high school in the metro Detroit area.
Here is what is at stake today for Jamie:
- Jamie is $14,612 away from Matt Jackson, who is 13th in all-time winnings (including tournaments and consolation prizes) and $62,930 away from Larissa Kelly, who is 12th.
- Jamie is 1 correct response away from Cris Pannullo, who is 9th on the list of players with the most all-time correct responses; he is 3 away from Roger Craig in 8th and 36 away from Yogesh Raut in 7th.
- Jamie has run at least one category in each of his last eight games; the current record for consecutive games with a run category is nine, jointly held by James Holzhauer (games 7–15) and Matt Amodio (games 28–36).

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
The Granadine Confederation was a short-lived republic that existed in northwestern South America and southern Central America in the late 1850s and early 1860s, encompassing what is now Panama, Colombia, and Brazil, and still contained Granadine in its name as a nod to New Granada, the name of the Spanish possessions in northern South America. The modern-day country of Colombia was named after Christopher Columbus, who only set foot in Venezuelan territory during his third voyage.
To me, this feels like more of a historical geography clue than a straight geography clue, but we shall see how it plays!

Game Recap:
The highlight of this game for Jamie was that he picked up 5 of the 6 $2000-level clues in the Double Jeopardy Round, which was more than enough to insulate him from Erik Bubolz just about doubling up on the last Daily Double with 12 clues to play.
Being strong in geography meant Jamie went aggressive in Final Jeopardy; he would have finished with $51,000 had he been correct. While there was one player correct in Final Jeopardy, that player was Catherine; Jamie is still a 22-day champion, though, with winnings of $627,600. He’ll go for win #23 tomorrow!
Scores going into Final:
Jamie $34,800
Erik $7,200
Catherine $4,400
Tonight’s results:
Catherine $4,400 + $4,000 = $8,400 (What is Colombia???)
Erik $7,200 – $7,199 = $1 (What is Dominica)
Jamie $34,800 – $16,200 = $18,600 (What is… Bolivia?) (22-day total: $627,600)

Game Stats:
Jamie $31,200 Coryat, 35 correct, 2 incorrect, 54.39% in first on buzzer (31/57), 3/4 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
Catherine $4,400 Coryat, 6 correct, 1 incorrect, 10.53% in first on buzzer (6/57), 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
Erik $4,800 Coryat, 15 correct, 5 incorrect, 31.58% in first on buzzer (18/57), 0/1 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $40,400
Jamie Ding, to win:
23 games: 75.848%
24: 57.529%
25: 43.635%
26: 33.096%
27: 25.103%
Avg. streak: 25.140 games.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Jamie ties the record jointly held by James Holzhauer and Matt Amodio by running a category in his ninth consecutive game.
- This seems like a good time to remind fans, especially as Catherine’s uncle Terry Currin was the subject of a contestant interview today: the 5-day limit was removed in 2003 because longer win streaks generally mean higher ratings and more excitement, and that has pretty much proven to be the case since the rule was changed nearly 23 years ago.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Jamie $34,800 Erik $7,200 Catherine $4,400)

Erik: In the battle for second place, standard cover bet over Catherine is $1,601. (Actual bet: $7,199)
Catherine: In the battle for second place, bet at least $1,201. (Actual bet: $4,000)
