Today’s Final Jeopardy – Tuesday, April 14, 2026

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 14, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 20th Century Nonfiction) for Tuesday, April 14, 2026 (Season 42, Game 157):

“Stop Fuming and Fretting” & “I Don’t Believe in Defeat” are Chapters 6 & 8 in this book

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Stephanie Rice-Hoffner, a former car wash tech manager originally from New York, New York
Stephanie Rice-Hoffner on Jeopardy!
Iain Carpenter, a healthcare IT specialist originally from Mahomet, Illinois
Iain Carpenter on Jeopardy!
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (22-day total: $627,600)
Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

22-game champion Jamie Ding has won $627,600; he goes for win #23 today against Iain Carpenter of Illinois and Stephanie Rice-Hoffner of New York.

Let’s just say that the amount of complete and utter disrespect I have seen online for challengers in general is completely unacceptable. To give an example of the type of player that is on the show right now: Iain was the second-best player on a college team that played for a Division 1 national championship a few years ago. And, I might even say that Iain doesn’t even have the best resume of a challenger this week. The players Jamie is beating are good at trivia, and the random viewers who think otherwise are completely and utterly wrong in their assessments.

Now, here is what is at stake today for Jamie:

  • With a win today, he ties Mattea Roach for the 5th-longest win streak in Jeopardy! history;
  • Jamie is $44,330 away from Larissa Kelly for 12th place in all-time winnings (including tournaments and consolation prizes);
  • Jamie is currently 1 correct response behind Yogesh Raut for 7th place in all-time correct responses;
  • If Jamie runs a category today, it will be his 10th consecutive game having done so; that would break the record currently jointly held by Jamie, James Holzhauer, and Matt Amodio.

Correct response: What is The Power of Positive Thinking?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The Power of Positive Thinking was a 1952 self-help book by Protestant minister Norman Vincent Peale. A bestseller every year from 1952 through 1955 and contained practical instructions which helped readers change their attitudes to become more positive. While the work was criticized by various academics as the examples given were unverifiable, the work proved popular among the general public.

I wouldn’t have batted an eye had I seen this clue in a Tournament of Champions; while the book has been covered occasionally on the show, it’s normally been in a situation where more clues have been given. I would have preferred to see one more clue here to point me away from other potential works in the genre.

Game Recap:

In a lower-scoring game than many previous ones, Jamie Ding still picked up a runaway victory thanks to a correct response on the last Daily Double.

Jamie Ding, to win:

24 games: 74.812%
25: 55.968%
26: 41.871%
27: 31.325%
28: 23.435%
Avg. streak: 25.970 games.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Jamie did not run a category, ending his streak at 9 consecutive games.
  • Much like I said in my opening thoughts: in my opinion, saying that Jamie is facing weak opposition is about the same as calling an NFL player like Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets bad at football.
  • Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
