Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, April 27, 2026

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 27, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Languages) for Monday, April 27, 2026 (Season 42, Game 166):

Of South Africa’s 12 official languages, these 2 are alphabetically first & last

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Greg Shahade, a chess player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Greg Shahade on Jeopardy!
Katrina Puckett, a teacher from Washington Court House, Ohio
Katrina Puckett on Jeopardy!
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (31-day total: $882,605)
Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After winning five games each, taping on four consecutive days, Jamie Ding got a bit of a break in “Jeopardy! Production Time” between Games #31 and #32. Looking to add to his total of $882,605, he will likely crack the $1,000,000 mark if he makes it to the end of April. He’s also only 24 correct responses away from 1,000 in that department; a win today would just about guarantee that Jamie gets to that mark in regular play. Jamie is also a win away from tying James Holzhauer for 4th all-time in number of games won in regular play.

However, one of our challengers is a name that I recognize—Philadelphia chess player Greg Shahade. Greg is certainly capable of a game like Patrick Nolan had on Thursday, if he doesn’t end up playing giant killer himself. The International Master, whose sister Jen has been lucky enough to present clues on the show before about chess, has basically written about his experiences becoming a strong trivia player. If you remember back to Game 6 of the 2024 Tournament of Champions final, where he got a shoutout, Greg is also one of Ben Chan’s protégés; I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Greg put up a great performance in this game today.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The 12 official languages of South Africa are Afrikaans, English, Sepedi, South African Sign Language, Southern Ndebele, Southern Sotho, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa, and Zulu. South African Sign Language was the most recent of the 12 to be recognized, with the National Assembly doing so in May 2023. Of these languages, Zulu is the most common first language, followed by Xhosa and Afrikaans, while English is the dominant language in government and the media.

This feels like a relatively straightforward Final Jeopardy for anyone who remembers Zulu as a language; Afrikaans is certainly well associated with the country.
