Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 8, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Pop Culture People) for Wednesday, April 8, 2026 (Season 42, Game 153):

Adopted in 1979, this name reflected size & strength as well as a promoter’s wish to appeal to Irish-American fans

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Dominex Kovacs, a software engineer from Sacramento, California
Dominex Kovacs on Jeopardy!
Erica Wagner, a high school English teacher from St. Louis, Missouri
Erica Wagner on Jeopardy!
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (18-day total: $530,372)
Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Jamie Ding comes into today’s game as an 18-day champion; your challengers attempting to unseat him are Erica Wagner of St. Louis and Dominex Kovacs of Sacramento.

If he gets a 19th victory today, Jamie will tie David Madden and Jason Zuffranieri for the 8th-longest win streak on the show since the 5-game limit was removed in 2003. Jamie is also just $2,124 away from passing Jason’s regular-play total for 7th and $19,124 away from passing Jason for 14th on the all-time winnings list, including tournaments and consolation prizes. On the correct response front, it would take a record-breaking performance today for Jamie to pass anyone on that leaderboard, but Jamie is just a dozen away from 600.

I’ve received a few comments lately from people who think that the Unified Prediction Model actually underestimates Jamie’s chances of winning games. And I’m not quite certain that I agree with those assessments. The way Jeopardy! is designed ensures there’s enough variance in the game so no player is ever unbeatable, especially in the mid-2020s, when analytics are so readily available to everyone. With that variance, if a player like Jamie Ding or James Holzhauer ends up on the good side of that variance, all that means is that they’re likely going to win a whole boatload of money; it doesn’t affect their win chances that much. But if they end up on the bad side of that variance—say, the Daily Doubles don’t quite break to their advantage in either location or content—challengers in today’s day and age can be more than capable of taking a long-running champion down. And the Unified Prediction Model takes that variance into account.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

How did wrestling star of the ’80s and ’90s Hulk Hogan get his name? In the late 1970s, Terry Bollea was appearing on a talk show in Memphis alongside Lou Ferrigno, who played TV’s Incredibly Hulk at the time. When his promoters at the time realized that Bollea was larger than Ferrigno, the nickname “Hulk” began to be used for the wrestler. As Terry “The Hulk” Boulder gained prominence in the wrestling world, WWE and Vince McMahon Sr. came calling. Wanting to appeal to the company’s fanbase in the Northeast—the home of a large Irish-American contingent, Bollea was given an alliterative Irish last name—Hogan—as he became one of the most recognizable wrestlers in history as Hulk Hogan.

It’s hard to say how this Final Jeopardy is going to play; I seem to recall Ken Jennings himself being a fan of 1980s wrestling, which, combined with Hulk Hogan’s passing last year, probably was enough for the show to run this as a Final Jeopardy clue today.

Game Recap:

Any haters turning this game off after 30 clues would be making an incredibly grave error. The Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy today did not break in Jamie’s direction; Dominex Kovacs doubled his score on one of the Daily Doubles, tying for the lead, while Jamie lost $8,000 in an attempt to regain the advantage he had. While Jamie recovered well, it was Dominex who led entering Final Jeopardy.

Unfortunately for Dominex, Final Jeopardy turned out to be a Triple Stumper—which, after Dominex’s cover bet and Jamie’s savvy wager himself, gave Jamie Ding his 19th victory. He’ll go for #20 tomorrow—and maybe those people complaining online might be quiet, because this one was far from boring!

Scores going into Final:

Dominex $17,600
Jamie $14,400
Erica $4,600

Tonight’s results:

Erica $4,600 – $4,400 = $200 (Who is ?)
Jamie $14,400 – $5,199 = $9,201 (Who was Rowdy Roddy Piper?) (19-day total: $539,573)
Dominex $17,600 – $11,201 = $6,399 (Who is)

Jamie Ding, to win

:
20 games: 74.259%
21: 55.144%
22: 40.949%
23: 30.409%
24: 22.581%
Avg. streak: 21.885 games.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I think we can probably say that Dominex is going to be a shoo-in to appear in Second Chance next postseason.
  • The 5/5 in this video game category today shows, in my opinion, that the contestants should be able to handle this material in the mid-2020s. The show should not be afraid to have video game categories more often in the future.
  • Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive. Speaking of this: it’s quite rich for today’s J!6 clues to include a clue about the proper pronunciation about a place in Texas when Ken once again butchers the pronunciation of a Canadian place. It’s incredibly disrespectful of the show towards both Canada and Newfoundland.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Dominex $17,600 Jamie $14,400 Erica $4,600)

Jamie: Your best chance of winning today comes if you bet between $3,201 and $5,199. (You can’t bet the more ideal $6,401 here because doing so would give Erica a hope of victory.) (Actual bet: $5,199)

Erica: Even though you’ll need an overbet from Jamie to have a chance, you can still pass Dominex if he’s incorrect, you’re correct, and you bet at least $1,800. (Actual bet: $4,400)

Dominex: Standard cover bet is $11,201. Get Final Jeopardy! correct and you take down the superchamp no matter what he does! (Actual bet: $11,201)
