Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 7-Letter Words) for Monday, June 29, 2026 (Season 42, Game 211):

This word for a specific type of knight is derived from the site upon which Rome was said to have been founded

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Sarah Streicher, a writer from Altadena, California
Sarah Streicher on Jeopardy!
Jeff Price, a math teacher from Barrington, Illinois
Jeff Price on Jeopardy!
Adam Remsen, an attorney & theater producer from Memphis, Tennessee (11-day total: $278,806)
Adam Rensen on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

As we near the end of June, we’ve got just 4 weeks left of Jeopardy! play before our summer break this season. This week opens with Adam Remsen returning to the Alex Trebek Stage as an 11-day champion, and I suspect that he may well have some difficult competition today in challengers Jeff Price and Sarah Streicher. Jeff is known in high school quiz bowl circles as the coach of the Barrington High School quiz bowl team who has won a number of national championships over the past few years; I’d be shocked if his interview today didn’t talk about how one of his players was 6-time champion Liam Starnes.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The word “paladin”, referring to the important knights in the court of Charlemagne in 8th century France (similar to the role that the Knights of the Round Table play in the world of King Arthur), is derived from the Latin “palatinus”, from the central Palatine Hill of Rome.

Were you paying attention to Jeopardy! YouTube Edition a few months back, most specifically Brennan Lee Mulligan’s in-game interview where they discussed Dungeons & Dragons—and how Brennan attempted to curry favor with Ken by calling him “a bold and sexy paladin”? Of course the etymology of “paladin” is going to show up in the main game! Also, this was an interesting piece of serendipity that I found this morning when doing some research into Barrington, Illinois: the Chicago suburb just southeast of Barrington is also named Palatine.
