Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Our final game of Jeopardy! for the week features a new champion in Caleb Groen, who won a very well-contested game yesterday; Richard Nguyen should certainly be back for Champions Wildcard, though. Today, Caleb goes for win #2 against Derek Vance of West Virginia and Amber Born of Queens.

In other show news, the show is hiring a writer. If you’ve ever wondered about the show’s requirements for becoming a writer, or you want to apply yourself, the job posting is publicly available.

Final Jeopardy! Category: 19th Century Literature

Final Jeopardy! Clue: In this novel a murderer tells the title character a story that he in turn tells a ship captain in the Arctic

In order to redesign our merchandise area to serve you better in 2026, all merchandise sales have been temporarily taken offline. Look for a return in late 2026! All previous orders will still be supported.

Correct response: What is Frankenstein?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

As Victor Frankenstein is so horrified by his creation, his monster, he flees in terror and his creature escapes, having to handle life on its own. Eventually, after having murdered Victor’s brother William, the creature confronts its maker, asking for a female companion to be created. While Victor originally consents to do so, he can not follow through with it, leading to him being cursed by the creature. The story begins from the point where Victor is telling this story to Robert Walton, an Arctic ship captain; Victor has been pursuing the creature in the Arctic and is near death from the hazards of the pursuit.

I have to say, in a contrast to yesterday, I am a fan of how today’s Final Jeopardy clue was put together. It’s an interesting way of putting together essentially a short plot summary of one of the most famous works of 19th century literature in a way that might teach the home viewers something that they don’t know.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Friday, July 3, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Crimefighters; A.I. Buzzwords; Steinbeck; Let Us Sing Of Biopics; Condiments; The City Once Known As…)

Today’s game opened strongly; Derek doubled up through the Daily Double, while nobody gave an incorrect response, nor was there a Triple Stumper. After 15 clues, the scores were Derek $5,000 Caleb $4,800 Amber $2,600.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Derek 5 correct 0 incorrect
Caleb 6 correct 0 incorrect
Amber 4 correct 0 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Amber once competed at a spelling bee where Ken gave a keynote speech.
Derek had a taxi that had a flat tire in India.
Caleb was best man at a wedding the same week as hhis law school exams.

As Ken said, there was “very little daylight” between our three players through 30 clues. On the opening board, Amber got 3 in Steinbeck and biopics, even though she was third through 30 clues.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Derek 10 correct 0 incorrect

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: America In 1976; Around The House; Animal Facts; Alliteration; 2010s TV; A Category Bulging With Information)

Amber played well, getting her total to two dozen correct responses, but this game turned when Caleb found the Daily Doubles on back-to-back clues; the $9,000 he got from them was enough to lead going into Final, but It wasn’t a runaway. Caleb got 3 in the bulging category; Amber got 4 in Around The House and 3 in 2010s TV.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Caleb 17 correct 1 incorrect
Amber 24 correct 3 incorrect
Derek 14 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 11 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Caleb $24,000
Amber $13,800
Derek $7,600

Final Jeopardy was a Triple Stumper, and that means, despite a larger than necessary wager from Caleb, he still wins as a result of his lead entering Final Jeopardy. He’ll go for win #3 on Monday.

Tonight’s results:

Derek $7,600 – $6,201 = $1,399 (What Billy Budd?)
Amber $13,800 – $13,799 = $1 (What is 20000 Leagues under)
Caleb $24,000 – $6,000 = $18,000 (What is Rime of the Ancient Mariner) (2-day total: $31,199)
