Derek Vance on Jeopardy!

Caleb Groen on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Our final game of Jeopardy! for the week features a new champion in Caleb Groen, who won a very well-contested game yesterday; Richard Nguyen should certainly be back for Champions Wildcard, though. Today, Caleb goes for win #2 against Derek Vance of West Virginia and Amber Born of Queens.

In other show news, the show is hiring a writer. If you’ve ever wondered about the show’s requirements for becoming a writer, or you want to apply yourself, the job posting is publicly available.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

As Victor Frankenstein is so horrified by his creation, his monster, he flees in terror and his creature escapes, having to handle life on its own. Eventually, after having murdered Victor’s brother William, the creature confronts its maker, asking for a female companion to be created. While Victor originally consents to do so, he can not follow through with it, leading to him being cursed by the creature. The story begins from the point where Victor is telling this story to Robert Walton, an Arctic ship captain; Victor has been pursuing the creature in the Arctic and is near death from the hazards of the pursuit.

I have to say, in a contrast to yesterday, I am a fan of how today’s Final Jeopardy clue was put together. It’s an interesting way of putting together essentially a short plot summary of one of the most famous works of 19th century literature in a way that might teach the home viewers something that they don’t know.

Game Recap:

Amber was aces on the buzzer in this one, picking up a lot of lower-valued clues en route to 24 correct responses on the first two boards. That said, Caleb’s Daily Doubles on back-to-back clues ensured he led entering Final Jeopardy.

Final Jeopardy was a Triple Stumper, and Caleb’s lead entering Final meant he didn’t have to wager that much to cover Amber, and he’s now a 2-day champion. He’ll go for win #3 on Monday.

Scores going into Final:

Caleb $24,000
Amber $13,800
Derek $7,600

Tonight’s results:

Derek $7,600 – $6,201 = $1,399 (What Billy Budd?)
Amber $13,800 – $13,799 = $1 (What is 20000 Leagues under)
Caleb $24,000 – $6,000 = $18,000 (What is Rime of the Ancient Mariner) (2-day total: $31,199)
