Warning: This page may contain spoilers for the January 19, 2024 game of Jeopardy! UK, especially for those of you watching delayed or on-demand. This page will be updated during each commercial break as the show airs.
Today’s contestants:
Matt Barr, an AI content specialist from Archway
Emma Laslett, a disability benefits officer from Milton Keynes
Michael Hutchinson, a maths teacher from Reading (5-day total: £30,551)
Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:
Michael Hutchinson is the first 5-time champion in the run of Jeopardy! UK, having averaged more than £6,000 a victory. As I said yesterday, being that there are 9,600 “points” on a UK board and 54,000 “points” on a US board, Michael’s current haul of £30,551 is the equivalent of having won $171,849 on US boards—which would place him #8 all-time had it happened in the United States. Seeing this performance, it absolutely would not surprise me to see Michael as a UK representative in an international tournament in the future.
On to today’s game, your challengers are London’s Matt Barr and Milton Keynes’s Emma Laslett. Both of these challengers are very strong; I am very much hoping for an exciting battle on today’s game!
Also: After what happened on Twitter on Wednesday, I want to make the following statement: If you have an issue with gender presentation, that is your problem, and you need help. You trying to make it everyone else’s problem is actively making the world as a whole worse. Transphobia has no place in the world or in this community.
Another reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!
