Greg Shahade, a chess player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2-day total: $54,601)

Greg Shahade on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

“Giant Killer” Greg Shahade backed up his victory over 31-game champion Jamie Ding with a second victory in yesterday’s game; today, he goes for win #3 against Ian Samson and Beth Orlansky.

In terms of what is at stake today for Greg: While his win over Jamie on Monday very likely clinched Greg’s spot in Champions Wildcard already, a third win today would be incredibly important for Greg’s Tournament of Champions chances. With there already being a 31-game champion and a 14-game champion in the lineup, the chances are high that 3 wins will be all that is required to qualify for the 34th Tournament of Champions in 2027.

Final Jeopardy! Category: Historic Declarations

Final Jeopardy! Clue: The 1848 Seneca Falls Declaration added these 2 words to the Declaration of Independence line beginning, “We hold these truths…”

In order to redesign our merchandise area to serve you better in 2026, all merchandise sales have been temporarily taken offline. Look for a return in late 2026! All previous orders will still be supported.

Correct response: What is “and women”?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men and women are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

At the Seneca Falls Convention, the first American women’s rights convention in 1848, a Declaration of Sentiments was prepared and delivered by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and local Quakers in the area. That Declaration of Sentiments included a nearly exact rewording of the “We hold these truths…” section of the Declaration of Independence, with the words “and women” added to emphasize the belief that both men and women should be equal.

I have to say, knowing how some people on the Internet like to react to things, there are certainly some trolls—at least in the comments section on YouTube—who I’m sure will have no feelings whatsoever about this Final Jeopardy. (No, their “concerns” today will not be valid.)

(Categories: On The “M”ap; The English Romantic Poets; Speeches; World Of Food; A Night At The Space Opera; Before & After)

Greg looked like he was cruising even with a miss on DD3—but not correcting himself in time on a $2,000 clue led to a massive swing and was enough to ensure that Ian was still within 50% entering Final Jeopardy. Greg went 3/5 in On The Map, space operas, and before & after, while Ian went 3/5 in speeches.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Greg 29 correct 9 incorrect
Ian 13 correct 2 incorrect
Beth 6 correct 1 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 11 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Beth $4,200

Beth and Greg were both correct in Final; this makes Greg a 3-day champion! He’ll go for #4 tomorrow.

Tonight’s results:

Beth $4,200 + $33 = $4,233 (What are “and women”?)
Ian $10,000 – $10,000 = $0 (What is self-evident?)
Greg $16,000 + $4,001 = $20,001 (What is all and women) (3-day total: $74,602)

Andy’s Thoughts:

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Greg $16,000 Ian $10,000 Beth $4,200)

Greg: Standard cover bet is $4,001. (Actual bet: $4,001)

Ian: Bet at least $2,000 to have any chance of victory. (Actual bet: $10,000)

Beth: You can’t win unless Greg makes a massive strategic blunder. Ian’s two most likely bets are “everything” and “$6,001”; thus, I’d limit my bet to less than $200 here and hope for an incorrect response from Ian. (Actual bet: $33)
