Tristan Williams on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Yesterday on Jeopardy!, Tristan Williams became the 21st player in Jeopardy! history to win at least 10 games in regular play; the previous 20 have all won game #11. Will that streak continue today, or will Allegra Rosenberg or Chris D’Angelo, our challengers today, end that amazing run?

One thing I have once again noticed—and this is, quite frankly, a damning indictment of many within this Jeopardy! community—the reaction of many Americans on social media to Tristan’s run compared to Jamie Ding’s run is absolutely shocking. I have not seen nearly as many negative comments surrounding Tristan than I have about Jamie—and I think we all know exactly why that is. And to those who like to tell me about how wrong I am and how I shouldn’t be making anything about race—you are just as much of a problem, as you are providing cover for the actual racists to act with impunity.

Final Jeopardy! Category: The 20th Century

Final Jeopardy! Clue: 51 days after this event, Edward Teller said the United States had lost “a battle more important & greater than Pearl Harbor”

Correct response: What was the launch of Sputnik?

More Information About Final Jeopardy!:

When the Soviet Union successfully launched the first artificial satellite—Sputnik—on October 4, 1957, it sent the United States of America into a shocked panic. The Americans were immediately seen as losing the “space race” to the Russians at that point, leading to an immediate change in funding priorities; within a year, the National Defense Education Act was passed, whose preamble stated, “The present emergency demands that additional and more adequate educational opportunities be made available.”

I don’t know how this Final Jeopardy clue will play today; it feels a little on the tougher side to me, but I’ve been wrong before.

Game Recap & Tonight’s Game Stats:

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Wednesday, May 20, 2026 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: 10-Letter Words; Mexico Through The Ages; Bible People In The Quran; It Figures It’s Newtons; Wanna Bet?; Star Wars, The Mandalorian & Grogu)

You could tell Tristan did not like the category as soon as he hit the Daily Double; he didn’t go all-in, and wasn’t correct on it either. That meant Chris led through 15 clues; scores were Chris $5,200 Tristan $2,400 Allegra $1,000.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Chris 6 correct 0 incorrect
Tristan 5 correct 1 incorrect
Allegra 3 correct 1 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Chris inspired his sister to write “Quiz Lady” by his attempts to get on the show.
Allegra just got back from Antarctica.
Tristan is trying to get to all 50 state capitals.

Chris continued his strong play, picking up another seven correct to keep leading through 30. On the opening board, Chris went 3/5 in 10-letter words, Mexico, and Star Wars, while Tristan went 3/5 in Newtons and betting.

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Chris 13 correct 0 incorrect
Tristan 10 correct 2 incorrect
Allegra 6 correct 1 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Tristan $4,400
Allegra $2,000

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: U.S. National Parks; We’ve Got Your Back; The Original Language; The Great Days Of Jazz; Women; “Ora” Farming)

While Tristan had the best round overall, another missed Daily Double from him (and a missed Daily Double from Allegra) gave Chris the lead entering Final Jeopardy. Tristan went 3/5 in original languages of literary works and women, though.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Chris 20 correct 3 incorrect
Tristan 20 correct 6 incorrect
Allegra 12 correct 3 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 11 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Chris $12,800
Tristan $9,700
Allegra $1,400

Chris crossed out an incorrect response and changed it to the correct one, which makes him a giant killer! He’ll be back tomorrow to defend.

Tonight’s results:

Allegra $1,400 – $1,101 = $299 (What is Hiroshima + Nagasaki)
Tristan $9,700 – $3,101 = $6,599 (What Fall of Saigon?)
Chris $12,800 + $6,601 = $19,401 (What is Tet Offensive Sputnik Launch) (1-day total: $19,401)

Chris D'Angelo, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the May 20, 2026 game.)
