Correct response: Who is Anton Chekhov?

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2022 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Anton Chekhov was a Russian playwright very famous for a theatre trope known as “Chekhov’s Gun”, basically the principle that every element in a story must be necessary, and irrelevant elements should be removed. Per his letters, “If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise, don’t put it there.”

Today’s interviews:
Dave has a Mohawk, but isn’t in a band.
Gillian wants to do government work with her myriad degrees.
Nick played clarinet and contrabass clarinet.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • It’s too bad the Gillian forgot the category on a couple of occasions; both of her incorrect responses were of the “failed to fit the category” variety. It wouldn’t surprise me if that had an effect on her confidence in the game itself.
  • Dave had 10 correct responses in the bottom two rows of the board; that bodes well for him as we move into next week.
