Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Good morning! I definitely have a few things to say on this Friday. Firstly, today sees the final game of Champions Wildcard, with Mehal Shah holding a good-sized lead over both Drew Goins and Will Yancey. However, it’s not insurmountable; due to the fact that anything earned in the main game can be doubled in Final Jeopardy, Mehal’s “effective lead” is just $4,800 over Drew and $10,800 over Will. Will is definitely going to need a very strong performance today, though, to get out of third place.

Secondly, Apparently Jeopardy! came up on Abby Phillip’s CNN show last night, with her commenting on the fact that Drew wasn’t given credit for adding an S on to her last name, saying it was “close enough”. To this, I say something similar to the quote I gave to the New York Times in 2016 regarding Coolio after the “Gangsta’s Paradise” ruling: Respectfully, I don’t think Abby Phillip is familiar with the intricacies of the rules of Jeopardy!.

Thirdly, the NFL strikes again! if you normally watch Jeopardy! on CBS, you’re dealing with the fallout today of the PGA Tour not wanting to go up against the NFL playoff games on Sunday. Because the Farmers Insurance Open from Torrey Pines in San Diego is being held Wednesday through Saturday instead of Thursday through Sunday, and CBS holds rights to broadcasting Rounds 3 & 4 of many PGA Tour events, there will be golf coverage on CBS between 5:00 and 8:00 PM Eastern this evening. (Moreover, the five Montana stations that air the show at 6:00 PM Mountain are choosing to air their local newscast after the golf.) If you’re affected, you can check your local listings, or you can check Matt Carberry’s Google sheet here. A couple of important notes: KLST San Angelo goes back into the “bad” pile, pre-empting the show entirely today after actually showing it on Monday, while WTSP Tampa Bay appears to be showing the show at 9:30 AM Eastern—which means today’s results will be going up two and a half hours earlier than they normally do.

Troll Hill, known as Troldhaugen in Norway, was the former home of famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Grieg’s most famous works are probably contained within the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt, which includes “In The Hall of the Mountain King” and “Morning Mood”. Troldhaugen is located in Bergen, Norway; the site is now the home of the Edvard Grieg Museum Troldhaugen, which was dedicated to the composer’s memory; the permanent exhibition of Grieg’s life and music was opened in 1995.

One potential incorrect response that I came up with, considering how this composer often liked to troll the classical music world: John Cage. (And, yes, I realize that he wouldn’t be a Final Jeopardy today after coming up during the Double Jeopardy round of yesterday’s game.)
