Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Erin Portman picked up over $30,000 as last night’s champion; today, her challengers are Hillary Kotler and Troy Meyer. Troy is a 4-time LearnedLeague champion, and a number of people within the trivia community, and many longtime diehard fans of the show, are extremely excited tonight to see how well Troy can do. (I should also count myself among the incredibly excited; Troy is one of the nicest people in the general quizzing community and I can’t wait to see how well he does.) However, as I said last week when it came to Yogesh Raut, “the history of the show is littered with quizzers with incredible pedigrees falling victim to the variance that is Jeopardy!—certainly being a strong quizzer helps, but it is absolutely no guarantee of embarking on a long run of victories, or even one victory on the program.”
I should also point out: Troy already features slightly in the show’s lore and “J! Effect”: Troy’s wedding with 2009 contestant Genevieve Sheehan was featured in the New York Times, due to the two of them having met on the show’s official message boards, and then recruited to “an ‘even more dorky’ site for ‘Jeopardy!’ fans”.
One further scheduling note for this evening: The ninth and final Celebrity Jeopardy! quarter-final, between Cari Champion (Sportscenter anchor), Brendan Hunt (Ted Lasso), and B.J. Novak (The Office) will take place tonight at 8:00pm (7:00 Central) on ABC. (As always, a separate post will be created for that).

Following their respective executions at the Tower of London, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard (the two “beheaded”s in the famed Henry VIII mnemonic regarding the fates of his respective wives) as well as disputed queen Lady Jane Grey, were all buried, without memorial, at the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula, within the grounds of the famed Tower of London. Thomas More was also beheaded at the Tower of London and buried in an unmarked grave.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Troy is out here showing all of us how important the Daily Doubles should be for knowledgeable players. He pretty much needed all of the $7,000 that he bet to earn his runaway, which ended up being crucial for him after a missed Final.
For the second time this week, an edit was made to Final Jeopardy! between its airing and its showing up in the New York Times. (The version in the Times said “2” and not “3”.) The writers need to get on the ball and shore up their clues before airing. This sort of carelessness from the writers is completely unacceptable. Both contestants and fans deserve better.
